Romanian Leader Says Journalists Alive

BUCHAREST, Romania -- Romania's president said Monday he is certain three Romanian journalists kidnapped in Iraq are alive and promised to do everything possible to bring them home.

President Traian Basescu did not provide any further information on where the journalists were or on any negotiations to secure their release.

"I know with certainty that the (three) are alive and authorities are doing all they can to bring them home safely," Basescu said during a visit to the Black Sea port of Constanta.

TV reporter Marie-Jeanne Ion, cameraman Sorin Miscoci of Prima TV and reporter Ovidiu Ohanesian from Romania Libera newspaper were kidnapped March 28 in Baghdad along with their Iraqi-American translator.
