Loud Explosion Heard in Central Baghdad
A loud explosion was heard in central Baghdad on Tuesday. Thick black smoke was seen rising from the direction of the heavily fortified Green Zone, home to government offices, foreign embassies and the U.S. military.

The U.S. military had no immediate information and it was not known what caused the blast or where it occurred.

Iraq's incoming Prime Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari was meeting Tuesday with the presidential council to try to finalize the remaining seats in his Cabinet before Iraq's first democratically elected government was to be sworn in

4. It's a sad state of affairs
I read the headline and almost didn't click on the thread. It's becoming very "ho hum-yawn-oh, that again?" when these stories pop up on the wires and it doesn't get much of a response.
I feel terrible for the people who have to live in Baghdad. They were just minding their own business about two years ago and now life is hell.

7. I hear ya.
Sadly, I hear ya.

On and on and on and on it goes.

For a glimpse into what they live with, Riverbend has a new post on her blog - (finally. I was beginning to worry)...

Saved by the Carrots...
These last few days have been explosive- quite literally. It started about 4 days ago and it hasn't let up since. They say there were around 14 car bombs in Baghdad alone a couple of days ago- although we only heard 6 from our area. Cars are making me very nervous lately. All cars look suspicious- small ones and large ones. Old cars and new cars. Cars with drivers and cars parked in front of restaurants and shops. They all have a sinister look to them these days.
