House, Senate Agree on $82 Billion War Spending Bill
http://ap.tbo.com/ap/breaking/MGBNZO5QA8E.html

WASHINGTON (AP) - House and Senate negotiators agreed Tuesday on a measure that would provide $82 billion for Iraq and Afghanistan and a nearly tenfold increase in the death benefit for survivors of troops killed in combat zones.

Overall, the legislation gives President Bush most of what he asked for and pushes the costs of two conflicts and other efforts to fight terrorism worldwide beyond $300 billion since the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

Congress had promised to pay only for urgent items in the spending package, but the final legislation ended up with the same overall price tag as the president's proposal.

Most of the money - $75.9 billion - is slated for military operations, nearly $1 billion more than what the president wanted. About $4.2 billion will be spent on foreign aid and other international relations programs in Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere, roughly $1.5 billion below Bush's proposal.

2. According to the 1973 War Powers Act, how many more times can they do this
Just like the Vietnam war, eventually if they haven't declared the war, or made the occupied country the 51st state, they will have to bring the troops home. This despite what Bush said on March 16, 2005, that the troops can come home when Iraqis can defend themselves. The US is building 14 permanent bases in Iraq. You can lie to the US taxpayer only so long...

5. Took over 20 years to get out of Vietnam. And a whole lot of
protesting in the streets. The only thing the average American seems to get excited about is runaway brides and reality TV. As I remember Vietname, the young people were mostly the ones doing the protests. College students who were smart enough to realize we had no idea why we were there and that they would be drafted after college.

7. Heh...
...Were we (the US gov't) cutting taxes & throwing money back at the rich?

Reckon the public will get tired of that expense, sooner this time, when gov't services disappear closer to home.

4. If I could divorce America, yet still live here, I would.
We live amongst idiots.

A billion here; A billion there; Pretty soon you're talking real money.

What about the people who are starving, you mothers! What about spending MY tax money to feed hungry children in Darfur? Come on. It's us Boxer, Conyers, and a handfull of others who really care about what is important. More bombs IS NOT IMPORTANT!

13. This isn't mismanagement. The gov't is getting the money to the people
it's wants to. Defense contrators. Oil companies. Halliburton & group. They have planned this for years and have made sure nothing works right. This is not mismanagement. This is done on purpose to drain the treasury.

$10 Billion cut from Medicaid - I'm glad they have their priorities straight! :eyes: :grr:

On edit: Both plans will end up killing people ... so I guess their main priority is death!

14. One way to make SS good. Anther thought though - what if their real
program to kill SS is based on the fact we are going to have so many wars in the future that there will be very few people left to pay into it?

15. Not going to war would mean +1.8% for every US citizen!
Since I was working with the calculator anyhow.
$300 billion = $1000 / US citizen including children

So each US citizen could have $250 per year. The median income is 43,527. Average family size is 3.14 = $13862/person. That means 1.8% of your money is spend on the illegal wars!
