WTNH: Police officers shot in shootout with suspect
(Old Saybrook-WTNH, May 3, 2005 Updated 6:50 PM ) _ Two Old Saybrook police officers are recovering from gunshots after an incident at the Knight's Inn on Route 1, Boston Post Road, in Old Saybrook.

According to the owner of the motel, Tushar Dadarrwala, he called the police for assistance evicting a guest when he refused to leave his motel room. The owner said he left the police at the guest's room and a few minutes later he says he heard shots fired.

State police spokesman Sgt. J. Paul Vance says as the police officers entered the motel room the suspect opened fire. The officers retreated to the hallway, but the suspect continued shooting as he ran. Vance say that a bulletproof vest saved the life of one of the officers.

This is my town. Peaceful little town where everyone knows everyone. We know these cops. Guns, guns, we need more guns in this country! And they need to be easy to get!

2. Thank you.
We're a town in shock tonight, and but for the grace of God could have been a town in mourning.

All because guns are easy for any psychopath to get in this country.

4. Your welcome...
...And may the Lord hold this gentle town in the palm of his hand,May He lead you past the hatred of this moment. May those officers both recover and thrive. May all there use this to count blessings and not to condemn all of us from outside...God Bless

3. Geez....
I have no idea what motivates some people. I guess I should be glad for that. I'm definitely glad that both cops are recovering, and that they were wearing vests. Scary when you realize that nowhere is really safe. Probably nowhere used to be really safe, either, but we know about so much more of it these days... :(

5. Yup, as soon as we give the police a monopoly on the use of force...
the sooner we'll be safer.

Unless, of course, your name is Rodney King or Abner Louima...

7. So, you're in favor of people shooting cops?
Do you hate anyone else besides soldiers and police? How about firemen--wanna bash them too?

8. In my 52 years my encounters with cops have mostly been negative..
I have witnessed mucho brutality, suppression of civil rights and corruption. I am extremely wary when I smell one in the vicinity. Best approached with maximum caution at all times.
The new breed of paramilitary costumed enforcers really give me the feeling that a person could get disappeared quite easily these days.

Firefighters are OK as long as you don't leave them unattended on your property!
