SAN DIEGO – County Supervisor Ron Roberts, who made three unsuccessful San Diego mayoral runs, said Wednesday he will not enter the race to replace Dick Murphy, who will step down on July 15.

"I like very much what I am doing here at the county of San Diego," Roberts said. "I've decided, along with my wife, my daughters and closest friends, that I am not going to be a candidate for mayor of San Diego."

Roberts, joined by his wife at a morning news conference, said the decision not to run was "probably the hardest decision ever."

Roberts placed third in the contested November mayoral election against Murphy and write-in candidate Councilwoman Donna Frye.

2. Roberts was easier to beat than Sanders will be...
This is bad news for Donna Frye.

Former SD police chief who rehabbed both the United Way and Red Cross here in SD.

So we've got some basic name recognition, outsider status and the appeal of having turned around some big charities.

This election just got alot tougher for Frye.

4. The California media hates Democrats, doesn't matter what Repub runs
Edited on Wed May-04-05 07:44 PM by Democat
The entire California media will trash Frye and support whatever Republicans runs. That's the way California works. The people may be progressive, but the media is extremely biased against Democrats and that hurts us more and more. Look at how Arnold was put into office by the California media.

The right wing controls California's media, especially in the Southern part of the state.
