'Propaganda' bill nixed in House
WASHINGTON — House Republicans Wednesday soundly rejected an effort by Democrats to ban the Department of Education from spending money on "covert propaganda."

The House voted 224 to 197 against a measure, championed by Reps. Rosa DeLauro, D-3, and George Miller, D-Calif., aimed at blocking the department from creating sham news stories or hiring columnists to promote policies.

So propaganda is now officially legal and sanctioned by the House. Good to know.

Edited on Fri May-06-05 12:25 AM by calipendence
if they follow through on making sure that the propaganda is put out that hides that they voted down this bill? That's the real sad thing about this.

3. Little children 's minds are easy to mold.
What institution said--give me a child until they are seven, and they are mine? Hitler was very successful with using propagada in the schools.

18. Indoctrination should start at an early age
General education is the set of fundamental skills (reading, writing, reasoning, and oral communication), the knowledge, and the capacity for thought needed to pursue further learning, to succeed in chosen fields, and to assume the responsibilities of informed and enlightened citizenship.

21. Adult Minds are also easy to mold.
Milgrim studies used Adults. Advertizing's rule of 7 applies to adults. The voting public that allows Bushco their despotic rule are Adults.

Agree it's even easier if you hit em when they are young. But we're getting pretty good at scaring and brainwashing people of all ages in this country. What we do with PR in this country is like a child playing with a loaded gun. We have no care or understanding of the consequences.

6. Actually, I was wondering about that
It seems that all or many of the actions of the neo-con-controlled Congress have been almost naked fascism. No holds barred. I believe this is ONLY possible if the Republicans are sure that they are no longer accountable to the people....as in, they gerrymandered and stole votes in great enough numbers to have control of the government for at least a decade, and know that their new laws only instititionalize this criminal strategy.

Perhaps a lot of Democrats (Blue Dog/DLC, whatever) realize this and go along to keep their seat at the "big table"...who knows?

Only by widespread outrage at this government do we even have a chance. Tell your friends.

9. I do that
I spread news I find here, and other places, very far & wide. From those places, others spread it further. Sometimes people think I'm a nut, but I get them thinking anyway. I've even noticed that some who attack my integrity on message boards, end up saying the same things I say... only about a year later...

13. Isn't this good news, in a way?
Now the Dems can run ads in 224 districts saying that their Congressman is pro-propaganda, while the Democratic challenger is pro-honesty?

17. Anyone have a screen shot of C-SPAN broadcast
Edited on Fri May-06-05 12:29 AM by calipendence
showing the vote totals on this? I think that should be grabbed and put on a t-shirt as such. Will give some folks things to think about. Hope the title on the screen was really illustrative of what was being voted on so that it can be impressionable if used in this way.

20. Hey Zodiak Ironfist--
This is an awesome post for such a newbie. I had well over 1200 posts before I made the greatest page. (Although the irony of something as terrible as this making something called the "greatest page" is kind of sad.)

Anyway, welcome to DU. Keep up the good work! :hi:
