Adams retains West Belfast seat

BBC

Sinn Fein President Gerry Adams has retained his West Belfast seat with 24,348 votes. The SDLP's Alex Attwood came second with 5,033 votes.

Northern Ireland's 18 seats are being contested by a total of 105 candidates. Mr Adams said:"My commitment to the people of West Belfast isn't just to the republicans of West Belfast.

"We will represent not just the people who voted for us. We will represent those people who voted against us and those who didn't vote for us at all."

Earlier Mr Adams was confronted by two of the Omagh relatives as he arrived at the count in Belfast City Hall.
