Canada-US goodwill slipping: poll
Mon May 9, 4:18 PM ET
OTTAWA (AFP) - Longtime friends, Canadians and Americans do not like or respect each other as much as they once did, an Ipsos-Reid poll released revealed.

Only 53 percent of Canadians now cite the United States as their country's closest friend and ally, down from 60percent in 2002, while only 14 percent of Americans believe Canada is their closest ally, compared to 18 percent three years ago.

Instead, 60 percent of Americans view the British as their best friends, up from 52 percent in 2002.>>>>snip

1. That article should read: Canadians No Longer Respect 1/2 of US
They know most of us mean well. But hey, we're now under a dictatorship.

Welcome to Chimp-Land.

7. I've visited some of their more eastern provinces but I don't know
really what life would be like there..I've been told that their health care system works better but I've also heard some about their unemployment problems, inflation, and the many frictions existing within their government and especially at times between the Anglo-French provinces..The US of course is the greater power and this factor must add to the strain..There are no doubt hostilities in states bordering Canada regarding pollution, trade, currency issues, etc..I'm sure there are folks who blame Canadians for any number of reasons..

2. "Slipping"? Not necessarily. Lazy headline writers and their bullshit....

Assuming the question is something like, "which country is your country's closest ally," and more Americans choose the UK compared to three years ago, it doesn't follow that there's necessarily less respect between the US and Canada.

Instead, it indicates only that the UK has earned more American respect in the last three years--at Canada's expense? Who can tell from this poll?

I think someone's got an interest in looking for an angle to push that may not be there in the first place.

(EDITED FOR SPELLING)

6. Back to Canada campaign
Don't forget many people ran to Canada because Bush's second inauguration was just as good as signing a draft mandate.

8. Push Poll?
'Chorus' Radio stations out West already used it as 'talk fodder' and the National Post ran it as an 'anti-American' theme,...

Being a Canadian, I know to never quote a Canadian news source...they change all the time or they scrub the links if you do quote they're particular spin...

The 'spin'...Canada hates America!!
