Delphi Will Slash 500 Salaried Jobs (Layoff Update - 1800 More)
From News Services

"Delphi Corp. of Troy, Mich, the largest maker of automotive parts, said Thursday that it will reduce its salaried U.S. work force by 500 jobs, or nearly 3 percent, by year's end as it cuts production. Delphi said that it began offering buyouts Tuesday and that it will fire workers if too few employees accept them.

EDIT

Reynolds & Reynolds Co. of Kettering, Ohio, a maker of software used by 90 percent of North American car dealers, will cut 200 positions. Also, the company will close a plant in Grand Prairie, Texas.

Interstate Bakeries Corp. of Kansas City will close a bread-and-roll bakery in Grand Rapids, Mich., by Dec. 3 and will fire 160 workers.

PeopleSoft Inc. of Pleasanton, Calif., has begun dismissing employees as part of its plans to cut about 7 percent of its workers, after the purchase of J.D. Edwards & Co. PeopleSoft said it would cut 750 to 1,000 jobs."
