Beheading of OPC leader: They must pay dearly for my son’s blood— Father
http://www.vanguardngr.com/articles/2002/cover/may05/14052005/f414052005.html

GRIEF and gloom ruled the home of Pa Rashidi Akande, retired civil servant, goat meat seller and father of the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) leader, Ibrahim Akande whose head was cut off and the corpse dismembered last week by some night guards some of who were OPC members as well.

When this reporter arrived No.16, Ara Street Mosun inside Ipaja town being the abode of the grief-stricken family, the sense of loss was very palpable. Every inhabitant in the six-room shanty house in the densely-populated neighbourhood wore long faces. The death of Ibrahim Akande, a trained carpenter and commandant of the dreaded OPC in the area hit everyone like a thunder bolt.

<snip>

I want the police to investigate the incident properly so that the whole world can know what happened to my son. It is just too barbaric to kill a man and cut his body into pieces. For what? Why were they keeping his head and palms for? Let the law take care of the murderers. I also want the government to assist the family in any way it can to alleviate this sorrow. I am a retiree and I don’t have anything that can take care of my late son’s wife and son. I beg the government and OPC not to forget a man who had helped to chase out robbers from this place.
