US approves Iraq trade by man named as Galloway middleman

Mr Zureikat agreed: "The reason for these claims is obvious. They are throwing this up to take attention away from all the violence going on in Iraq and because George has just got back into Parliament."

The Jordanian Christian said he had never been questioned about his alleged role in the oil-for-food affair or about Mr Galloway.

US diplomatic sources confirmed yesterday that Mr Zureikat has been granted visas to visit the US since the war, and that there have been no US obstacles to the renewal of his commercial ventures in Iraq.

The Senate report claims Mr Galloway used a charity he set up, the Mariam Appeal, to conceal payments. He denies the claims and says he will refute the "McCarthyite ... Kafkaesque slurs" at today's hearing. His evidence will be televised.

3. I said the same thing when I first heard about it

and nothing that I have seen has even made me think about wavering.

Not only are their guys fully involved, the US itself let it happen helped it to happen, and have done much worse since the program was ended and they took control of Iraqi oil.

The fact that (from the numbers I have seen) what is being discussed is immaterial makes it worse. An audit would have "findings" but the amounts of money (again that I have seen) would not result in a qualified auditor's report.

4. The timing of Galloway's testimony couldn't have been better

Yesterday the Repug controlled foreign affairs committee finished their report and it showed the U.S. received 52% of all illegal Iraqi oil sales. The report was released by the minority Democrats on the committee.

Galloway mentioned the conclusions of the report in his statements.
