Tories to support budget but try to topple gov't (Tories cave, Canadian)
Conservative Leader Stephen Harper announced Tuesday night that the Tories would be voting in support of the federal budget on Thursday, but that they would still try to defeat the minority government on an amendment.

The amendment in question proposes $4.6 billion in spending on housing and the environment and also proposes a delay in a series of corporate tax cuts.

Harper announced the decision after a caucus meeting Tuesday night, hours after high-profile MP Belinda Stronach defected to the Liberals.

Earlier in the day, Harper said Stronach's move made it less likely that the government would be defeated on Thursday.

(This is a major defeat for Harper, he may still be able to bring down the government but it is less likely and shows he knows he would lose the non-confidence vote on the budget so he is acting like the chickenshit he is.)

1. Probably
So he can maintain the two Newfoundland members. This way Newfoundland gets their money but the NDP revisions will be blocked.

2. I don't think the revisions will go down
Harper doesn't look good in pulling back after saying if the Libs won the budget vote they would go back to work and stop trying to bring down the government and then turning around and not having the guts to put it to the test.

Whatever happens, this has gotten VERY interesting.

3. I hope You Are
Correct.
Further, I think that it is about time that the Conservatives stay as one party or to get the red tories to bring back their idea of a conservative. They have had time to decide.

Mentioned this before. Heard earlier today: Canadian politics is more interesting than reality TV. What on earth will tomorrow bring?
