Another American soldier killed in Iraq
Just reported as breaking news on CBS Radio News, at 5:00 a.m., EST.

They said he and his group were on patrol, and attacked by small arms fire, and RPG's, southeast of Baghdad.

Also said there was a clash between a group of Iraqiis protesting lack of employment and American soldiers, with the Iraqiis shouting, "America, no," I think. The soldiers blocked off the area with humvees and the crowd dispersed.

Former Iraqi soldiers protest for jobs and back pay

ASSOCIATED PRESS

BAGHDAD, Iraq, Oct. 4 — A 4th Infantry Division soldier was killed and one was wounded in an attack in southeast Baghdad, the U.S. military reported Saturday. Earlier, a stone-throwing mob of ex-Iraqi soldiers charged at U.S. soldiers near a former military airport in central Baghdad where American forces have a large base. The Americans fired shots in the air to drive back the mob.

A U.S. PATROL was hit at about 11:45 p.m. Friday with small arms fire and a rocket-propelled grenade in the As Sadiyah region, the military said.

The death brought to 88 the number of American soldiers to die in hostile action in Iraqi since President Bush declared major combat over on May 1. More than 300 U.S. soldiers have died in the country since the U.S.-led war started on March 20.

4. They weren't just protesting lack of employment...
...they were complaining because the US is throwing a pittance at former soldiers to "shut them up" (whatever happened to their opposition to a welfare state, their insistence that everyone who can work, does?), but they aren't INVESTED in the reconstruction effort. They aren't being employed, just paid a pittance, which they then have to share with the rest of their family that is suffering because we have totally decimated their economic infrastructure.

Now, there's a parallel here. What happens in regions where there are large groups of unemployed young males? I mean, over 50% unemployment...

EVERY TIME, civil unrest, violent uprisings...

I won't mention any of the regions, but you get the picture. I don't know what the hell they are thinking. You want a peaceful Iraq, the Bush administration has to do what it hasn't been able to do here, "grow jobs". And guess what, they'll soon be seeing the same sort of thing here if things don't change. They can't channel all the angst filled unemployed young men into the cannon...
