5 Ohio justices step down from rare-coin case
Five Ohio Supreme Court justices announced today that they have recused themselves from hearing two open records lawsuits that call for disclosure of the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation complete rare coin inventory.

The justices were not required to say why they recused themselves from presiding over the suits filed by The Blade and State Sen. Marc Dann, a Youngstown Democrat, asking for details of the coin fund operated by prominent Toledo-area Republican Tom Noe.

Mr. Noe and his wife, Bernadette, have contributed more than $23,000 to the campaigns of the recused justices, Thomas J. Moyer, Evelyn Stratton, Maureen O’Connor, Terrence O’Donnell, and Judith Ann Lanzinger.

The bureau last week announced plans to end its $50 million rare-coin investment with Mr. Noe amid concerns about its management.

2. Hey Rose, if you're an Ohioan, what's the feeling on the ground there
about this? Are the repukes rightly taking the heat for this scam? Are the Dems smart enough to consistently and constantly hang this around any/all repuke's necks and send a whole lot of them home to "spend time with their family" in 2006?

8. In answer to your question to Rose, as a Central Ohioan
this, so far, is a low priority story, or basically a non-story on local news here. Big news in Central Ohio...OSU Buckeye running back cited for drug posession (marijuana).

Believe me, that will be the lead story tonight.

Lots of sheeple here.

What kind of investment is $50 Million in rare coins for a Bureau of Workers' Compensation????

7. "Loose Change "

"Oops. I forgot to tell you about your missing 250 grand."

Every novice magician learns enough sleight-of-hand to make coins disappear. But the trick is much less amusing when the coins represent a respectable chunk of the state's Workers' Comp fund investments. Which is just one of the reasons Tom Noe -- a rare-coin dealer who sat on the Ohio Turnpike Commission and the Ohio Board of Regents -- resigned from both posts last week.

To bring you up to speed: The state invested $50 million in a rare-coin fund run by Noe, who's a friend of Governor Taft and a supersized Republican campaign contributor -- the latter being the reason the state didn't invest in the more lucrative Jody Gerut rookie card market. Noe is now under investigation by the FBI for possible campaign-finance violations, and the fund is looking scary.

It turns out that as many as 121 state-owned coins are missing -- including two worth $250,000. Noe claims the two gold coins were "lost in the mail" and that the others were "misappropriated" by a former employee. But Noe neglected to notify the cops or let the state know that its 250 Large was missing.

Better yet, one of the coin managers Noe hired, Mark Chans, has a previous conviction for faking a coin transaction to launder drug money. Noe never bothered to do a background check...

15. Americans are so stupid.
And uninformed. Will Pitt is right; they should use their 2nd amendment right to shoot the tee-vee.
