Rally protests Army recruitment outside North Side high school
http://abclocal.go.com/wls/news/052005_ns_army_recruit.html

May 20, 2005 — Demonstrators rallied outside a North Side high school to protest US Army recruiting tactics. Activists, students and parents gathered outside Senn High School.
The demonstration comes as Army recruiters face allegations of misconduct and overly aggressive tactics. Army officials are investigating more than 400 allegations of improper recruiting conduct. Friday was called a stand-down day. The Army suspended recruiting for a day of training on how to attract new soldiers in Chicago and across the country.

Just because there is no draft does not mean today's high school students are not confronted daily by the prospect of military service. Recruiters from the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines have been given access to most area high schools and as a rule work overtime, phoning and e-mailing potential soldiers.

At Chicago's Senn High School, every student we talked to could remember having been "hit on" recently by a military recruiter. Sixteen-year-old sophomore Alexander Emmanuel says he has been approached at least 10 times in the last 18 months.

"They don't stop. I mean they just keep on doing it and doing it," said Alexander Emmanuel, high school student.

Both my parents graduated from Senn. I went there my freshman year.

3. More
At least this guy is willing to enlist to fight in the war that he supports:

Senn senior Alan McDuffy, who will graduate next month, has already joined the Marine Corps and finished boot camp. Ironically, he's the half brother of Alexander Emmanuel, who we heard from earlier, and has an opposite view of military service.

"I feel like I'm going to do what I have to do to serve my county, the United States of America. I was born here, raised here, it's my country. I'll defend my country at all costs," said Alan McDuffy, high school student.

4. The "Bush Gang's" Achilles heel!
Not enough American's willing to put their lives on the line for what?? Only 59 million American's voted for The "Bush Gang", thats not the world's biggest recruitment pool!! A lot of these 59 million, have absolutely no intention of allowing their beautiful minds or children to be spoilt with the minor irritation of military service in Afghanistan or Iraq. You might die or be maimed for life! So the pool of 59 million shrinks even further!!
At the moment 1,630 US soldiers killed in Iraq and 12,350 wounded is still not enough to get the US public "off their arses" and into the streets, so the next best thing is for all Freedom & Democracy voting Democrats to ensure that none of their children sign up for The "Bush Gang"! A "STRIKE" on providing bodies will work, quicker than you think. Neither Afghanistan or Iraq is going to get any better, so cutting off the "Bush Gang's" supply to young American's is by far the best way to bring these "fuckers" down, between elections. The "Rest of the World" asks Democratic American's to ensure that their children stay safe back in America. By not allowing your children to be recruited is not unpatriotic. It is not cowardice. It is not "liberal". It is common sense!! Military forces are for defence. Empire building is for aggression!

5. Great post!
Well said, Aussiedownunder.

Yes, these signs of resistance are heartening.

They speak to the decency sustained within empire by ordinary people, despite all the seductions of our news, entertainment and video game media as well as all the bullying and lying by our politicians.

Even in the face of economic difficulty, the vast majority of people refuse to become mercenaries-for-hire by the imperial army.

Work for peace, my fellow DUers, and say NO to politicians of any party who do otherwise.
