Bomb Explodes in Southern Afghanistan, Killing a US Soldier and Wounding 2

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) - A bomb exploded near a U.S. military patrol in southern Afghanistan on Saturday, killing one American soldier and wounding two others, the U.S. military said.

The attack occurred in Shinkay district in Zabul province, Lt. Col. Jerry O'Hara said.

2. Is it me or is Afghanistan is getting worse by the day?

I can't really tell - last year we didn't have these reports coming out of there. But were they just not saying or has it gotten worse?

4. Yup. Several fatalities within the last month.

I don't have an article to link to, but I know I've read about these fatalities. I've also read that the Taliban is regrouping.

It was a sight to behold too. The US dropped more tonnage in bombs (the first try at Shock And Awe) on little North Vietnam than it had dropped in all previous wars combined and we still got our asses kicked. Pretty amazing when you think about it.

One U-S soldier has been killed and two wounded in a bombing in Afghanistan.

The U.S. military says the bomb exploded today near a U.S. military patrol in southern Afghanistan. The two wounded soldiers were taken to a base in Kandahar for medical treatment.

11. I'm assuming here that

the explosives from the Al-Qaqaa weapons dump made their way to Afghanistan, as well.

We certainly are seeing a lot of this lately.

14. Afghanistan becomes more dangerous after the "liberation"

At the present rate, more than 60 soldiers will die this year - the largest annual number since the war began. Since we only have around 10 thousand troops there, this means there's a damn good chance of getting killed or wounded when you get assigned there.
