Iraqi ship allowed to sail home
IANS, Ahmedabad, May 22: An Iraqi ship that was detained off the Indian coast for more than a month has been allowed to sail home after its crew threatened to commit suicide.

The Basra-bound MV-Harision-9 had been anchored off the Mundra port of Kutch district after the marine mercantile department (MMD) ruled it was unsafe and unfit and denied it permission to sail.

The MMD functions under the directorate of shipping.

The 15-member crew had protested against the detention and threatened to commit suicide as they were running out of food and water. The ship’s crew included two Iraqis, six Syrians, five Bangladeshis and an Indian.
