Bush Under Fire
...One man who has fallen victim to Rove is Jim Hightower, who faced off against Rove's Republican candidate in a Texan election in 1989. Rove leaked extensively to the local press that Hightower was facing an FBI investigation. The allegations decimated Hightower's polls and he went on to lose the election. Hightower was never charged, by the FBI or anyone else.

For Hightower, last week's scandal bears all the hallmarks of Rove's tactics. 'No kind of political action like this is going to be taken without Rove's office putting the stamp of approval on it,' he told The Observer. 'He may not have made the actual phone calls, but that's irrelevant.'

...But the investigation of the leak has also exposed another facet of the tightly knit Bush administration - patronage. In resisting calls for a special counsel, the investigation is in the hands of Attorney-General John Ashcroft. Bush appointed Ashcroft to his job, meaning he is now effectively being asked to investigate his own boss. Rove has also worked for several of Ashcroft's campaigns in the past. He was also influential in getting him appointed to his current post when Bush's first choice fell through. 'They will never appoint a special counsel. This shows ruthlessness gone awry,' said Joe Conason, author of Big Lies, a book on the Bush administration and its use of the media.

...'There has been a huge shift in the national atmosphere. It is no longer considered unpatriotic to ask questions, to be critical,' Conason said.

2. God bless hightower and conason, American heroes.
I do recall how they faunched and carried on that Clinton would be
analyzed by Janet Reno. They called for that freakshow, Starr because of it. They have no argument to forestall an investigator. :) Paybacks are a bitch, aren't they?

6. The only way to the truth will be offering Jail time, hard time...
'No kind of political action like this is going to be taken without Rove's office putting the stamp of approval on it,' he told The Observer. 'He may not have made the actual phone calls, but that's irrelevant.' With some jail time Rove's Fire Wall will turn on him.

7. Do you think any of these guys will do jail time?
I would guess they have destroyed most of the evidence by now! I can only hope prison (does it have to be the "posh" federal prison?) is in the not to distant future! Please, oh please, oh please!

10. Absolutely not
The Texas Fascist Party has a lot of experience with breaking the law and getting away scott free, even in the face of serious investigations. Just look at Watergate and Iran Contra.

Ashcroft will go through the motions, find no evidence to indict anyone, and the major players will either get reelected or return through the revolving door to well-paying executive positions to await their next turn to aquire public office.

There really is no hope for the future.

11. There is hope...It is called an Independent investigation
If we can get enough people in this country screaming for an independent counsel it just might happen. Look at all the shit Ken Starr brought out. (Of coure Clinton was not known to destroy documents)That would be MINOR in comparison. This administration has been very secretive, I fear they have alot to hide. Maybe, just maybe, and independent counsel will reveal this admininstration for exactly what they are...corrupt

13. No special prosecutor
This administration and their party thinks of itself as being on a mission from god. No degree of public protest short of revolution will sway them from their chosen coruse of action.

Millions of people demonstrating against the Haliburton war were not enough to stop it. Millions of people demonstrating for a special prosecutor will not force Ashcroft to appoint one.

8. Isn't Junior a "White House Employee"? Shouldn't he take a polygraph too?
If it's a true investigation without prejudice and assumptions, shouldn't he be asked all of the same questions too? After all, he's a "high administration official", isn't he?

12. Who was the person Rove said "we will fuck him, fuck him like he's
never been fucked before, we will ruin him" something along those lines. Does anybody know? Did that happen to be Hightower? Just curious.

(If he goes to prison, he will learn to be fucked like he's never been fucked before)

like that woman – Yolanda – who's doing time for mailing that debate tape to Al Gore's campaign headquarters.

16. I believe (could be wrong) that Hightower's opponent was RICK PERRY!
Seems I was following Texas politics back then -- and this guy came from out of no where: Rick Perry. Maybe he took out Lena Guerrero.

All I know for sure is that Rove single-handedly dismantled a staunch dem state.

I blame the voters, of course - falling for the lies and deception.

As I will blame the voters in Calif if Arnie wins. (unless it is the machines.....)

17. Are you sure the headline didn't mean fire under Bush?
It should of.

So far as Rove and Ashcroft?.....

Carnahan still haunts them!!!!!

One thing about people who are murder....Their spirit never leaves until justice has been accomplished.

You see, a victim always knows who has murdered them.
The thoughts of the murderer always remain in their conscience,
which keeps the spirit lurking around and searching for truth and justice to be revealed.

So Mr. Ashcroft?....Carnahan sleeps with you.
Mr. Rove?......Carnahan, Wellstone and all of 911 sleeps with you.
Mr. Cheney?....All off 911 and Welstone and Asbestos investigators
Mr. Kelly and many more sleep with you.
Mr. Bush I?....Charles Baxter, Dana Rice., Dr. Wiley and Well, many have slept with you a long, long time.

Let me remind you all.....you ain't getting any younger either.
