10. Teach 'em what theory means
Science is full of theories. Just teach the students what a theory is and how the word is used. It won't be hard for them to figure out what they were ham-handedly trying to say with that sticker.

6. I lived in Cobb County for years
We were there when they passed the anti-gay resolution and attended the protest on the Marietta Square. Cobb County is also the home of Newt Gingrich (who graduated from my high school in Columbus, GA). When we moved to North Carolina we traded Newt for Jesse Helms. It was repug hell- Newt or Jesse?

11. Cobb County
I note in this morning's AJC Cobb is planning on becoming a shining beacon for the arts. I really do not think this will happen so long as the fundies exercise censorship over what can be exhibited, performed and viewed in that part of Georgia. Art must breath free air to flourish. It can only be restricted for so long before it dies. Cobb County may have money but it has no true respect for the arts. Feh on Cobb.

I am a proud Atlantan. And fear to even visit Cobb.

13. Better yet, just put "Fiction" on the spine of the book
If it weren't the Bible fundies would be raising hell about the sex and violence between the covers.

21. Don't forget to put that on the Koran too.
And the Baggata Vida (not sure about spelling), and other Hindu sacred books.
And the works of Plato (plenty of religious philosophy in there).
And The Tibetan Book of the Dead, and all other Buddhist sacred books.
And any Jewish works not specifically in the Bible.
And the Gnostic scriptures.
And the Norse, Celtic religious myths.
And American native, African animist, etc. religious stories.
And the various spiritualist works.
Might as well throw in L. Ron Hubbard.
I am sure there are lots more I have missed.

You get the idea.

9. Here in Georgia we're progressing kicking and screaming...
...into the 1920's.

On the up side, Cobb County just made a deal to buy tens of thousands of Macs for students. How that happened, I'll never know.

15. Another Mac Addict
Glad to read between the lines and see another Mac addict.

Good news that Apple is back in the eductation business.

For me, the weaker system got the global market...not unlike Beta being set aside for VHS. Everyone suffers.

The Macintosh is a triumph of vision and innovative design...not to be duplicated by any other system.

16. Ga. County Removing Evolution Stickers
Tue May 24, 6:59 AM ET

MARIETTA, Ga. - Workers in Cobb County have begun removing controversial evolution disclaimer stickers from science textbooks to comply with a judge's order.

By the end of the day Monday, several thousand stickers, which said evolution was a theory and not a fact, had been scraped off. The school district had put 34,452 stickers on textbooks across the county.

The evolution disclaimers read: "This textbook contains material on evolution. Evolution is a theory, not a fact, regarding the origin of living things. This material should be approached with an open mind, studied carefully, and critically considered."

Six parents sued to remove the stickers saying the disclaimers violated the principle of the separation of church and state. A federal judge in January agreed and ordered the stickers removed.

20. Send their kids to religious schools ! That's the American tradition.
I'm not hearing that argument anywhere, just the "separation of church and state" phrase. But nobody is making the point that people with such strong religious convictions are perfectly free to send their children to the religious school of their choice, which is what they should do, instead of trying to impose their religion on a public school system.

Catholics and Jews have been doing it for a pretty long time, and getting a good education. There are also plenty of Christian academies. If parents are that exercised over the teaching of evolution, they should exercise their right to choose where to send their children to school.

why isn't anyone saying that? Or--of course, it could be I've missed it
