Franken waiting with remote in hand for Rush's arrest
Edited on Sat Oct-04-03 08:20 PM by oxycontinrush
"...Al Franken, author of the bestselling exposé of right-wing bias in the US media, Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them, and a long-time critic of Limbaugh, said yesterday he felt sympathy for anyone who suffered a drug addiction but conceded many on the political Left would be happy to see him arrested if the allegations held up.

'I'll be switching television channels to get it from every angle,' he said. 'My favourite part is when they push their heads to get them down into the police car...."

1. I wish I thought or could hold hope that he'll be arrested, but
there's really no way unless he resold or distributed the drugs himself. The way the evidence was gathered is a little dodgy, for one thing, since the police weren't involved, and the maid probably made a heck of a lot of money selling to him, and who arrests junkies unless they commit other crimes? He'd have to be high driving his car and get caught with a bunch of pills in his possession in order to get arrested, I think. I think he deserves it... I just am not going to hold my breath.

4. They have Rush dead for attempting to possess narcotics
We all know Rush will probably never see a night in jail, but at some point there will be a conviction, he will be taken into custody, and we will at least get a mug shot out of all this. There are 4 pages of e-mail from him conspiring to purchase narcotics. That cannot be ignored.

He'll plead to something that will get him put into rehab and probabtion.

44. Ummmm....
Correct me if I'm wrong here, but since when is email damning evidence in court? There are all kinds of ways to spoof it, and I guarantee that the paper the email is printed on doesn't have Rush's fingerprints on it. It's not like he typed her an email, printed it out, and handed it to her...

What's the evidence trail look like on the emails? How long were they on the woman's computer and not in the hands of the police? Even if they absolutely, positively can PROVE that the email came from Rush's computer (they can't, my understanding is that the headers etc can be effectively forged...if spammers can do it...) how can they prove that Rush was sitting at the computer when it was typed in?

We'll have to hear what the contents of the audio tapes are before we can know if there's ANY chance of a conviction...but trust me, email doesn't cut it in court unless there's video of the sender sending it.

6. He could very well be arrested.
He possessed the drugs without a prescription. In the quantities alleged, that is a felony, and carries a mantatory sentence in FL.

He has retained Roy Black, one of the best criminal lawyers in the country.

Pigboy is in deep shit, and he knows it.

I would be curious to know if the States Attorney for Palm Beach County is a Dem or retug, and whether he/she is running for higher office...

And the quantities we are talking about are automatically "distribution" charges....not possession. Distribution does not mean selling. Distribution can be sharing with friends.

28. Here in Chicago
There is an ongoing operation that nabs BUYERS, and ARRESTS them, and sends them to JAIL.
If Rush is addicted to a controlled substance that he did not have a prescription for, then he must have obtained it in some unlawful fashion. Therefore he is liable for arrest and prosecution.
Not likely, though.

45. Not only that...
but I'm wondering what kinds of credibility problems the woman will have on the stand. From what I've seen, she's going to be painted by the defense as a disgruntled former employee out to get her former boss.

On top of that, if she testifies that she gave him drugs, that pretty much guarantees her a distribution charge (and certain conviction, because she'd be confessing in court under oath) for EVERYTHING she sold or gave him. Her testifying on the record would either cut her own throat figuratively, or be the result of a "sweetheart deal", which further damages her credibility.

2. God bless Al Franken... brings a tear to my eye.
I feel sorry for Limbaugh- I hope he keeps a good grip on the soap in the shower room.

I heard one legal talking head say in Florida there's a mandatory 15 year term for possession of a controlled substance in the amounts he's been accused of having.

He has a disease. I recognize that. But the last thing you should do for an addict is to try to slow down his arrival at his/her "rock-bottom." Until that moment when the accept they are an addict and need help, I refuse to cut them any slack. It doesn't help them.

30. Exactly - tough love is what he needs, and that he will get from us
And his puke followers? They will explain his problem away until he ends up dead from an O.D.

And you know - I don't get the impression that drug addicts (with scripts or street drugs) tend to get on a pulpit 5 days a week throwing daggars at drug addicts.

There's something else very, very wrong with Rush and it doesn't have a thing to do with drugs.

Hey.......whoa.....Head Rush, dude!

16. Try this for justice
Rush cops a plea........

Pays a HUGE fine....millions would be fair...

Does mandatory rehab....

Then has to do 1 year of Public Service in the most economically and racially diverse neighborhood in Florida.

Let him live with the people he's been raking over the coals for 15 years and let him have to work FOR them, under THEIR supervision and live THEIR REALITY.

That, my friends would be justice with a capital "J"

What comes around, goes around. He always said young, black men should do jail time for drugs - so why shouldn't middle-aged white men?

and his radio show after a long a protracted media feeding frenzy, and he is forgotten, left alone with his ill-gotten millions, friendless, and still a junkie. i don't really care if he stays a junkie for the rest of his life, as long as he shuts up... he has been terrible for our country.

I think about 2 years of protective custody in a county prison would teach him about how real junkies live.

County prisons don't have much in the way of services. Prisoners are lucky if they can scrounge something to read. It's where most repeatedly arrested drug addicts do their time.

35. What was Tommy Chong's sentence again?

Chong is in prison not for selling, buying, or possessing drugs illegally but for selling bongs. How is that even illegal?

Pigboy should do prison time for buying huge quantities of controlled drugs illegally. He knew he was breaking the law and he's done so for years. He's supported the get-tough-on-addicts Republicans so let him play by their rules.

Then let's elect Dennis Kucinich to end the war on drugs and start helping addicts instead of jailing them.

Though we might consider continuing to jail all card-carrying Republican addicts since that's what they support!

There is some kind of double standard here. I'm sure glad that smoking bongs doesn't cause deafness. I bet if pot caused deafness, a lot fewer countries would have legalized it the way Canada and the Europeans did.

As despicable as this fucker is, he - and everyone - should have the fundamental right to put whatever the hell he wants into his own body, as long as no one else is hurt by it.

Talk about being torn...!
