Adviser to Bush's Father Redefines Himself as Wary Whistle-Blower (Wilson)

WASHINGTON, Oct. 4 — The dim, grainy photograph is not the best he has ever taken with a president, Joseph C. Wilson IV said, glancing at a picture of himself with President George H. W. Bush, taken in January 1991, two days before the start of the Persian Gulf war. But it is the most memorable.

The two men are caught midstride, heads bowed, walking through the White House Rose Garden, discussing the imminent military action, said Mr. Wilson, who was a senior diplomat in Baghdad at the time. "He was asking all the questions you would want a president to ask as we were contemplating war," he said. "All the human questions."

Now at the center of a political maelstrom over the current Bush administration's war in Iraq — one that has set off a Justice Department investigation into possible criminal wrongdoing by White House officials — Mr. Wilson harks back to those days with a measure of dismay.

"It gives me no pleasure whatsoever," he said of the current controversy, in an interview at his office on Friday. "It gives me great pain, in fact, because of that particular relationship, which I value, with the president's father."

DO read the whole article! This piece is actually a fairly decent rebuttal to the whole repug attack of "PARTISAN!" being deployed against Wilson.

And at the end of the article is a single statement from Wilson's lawyer saying that they are "considering" a civil suit -- which could be a BIG DEAL. If you haven't yet read John Dean's salon article from yesterday regarding his recommendation that the Wilsons pursue a civil suit, get to it!

http://www.salon.com/opinion/feature/2003/10/03/dean/index_np.html -- Remember, you don't have to subscribe to read the whole thing, just give up a minute of your time to run through whatever commercial they've got posted for a free day pass -- WELL worth it!

1. good article in www.salon.com
This whole business about partisanship is a crock anyway.
it has nothing to do with the crime.

Wilson is defending his wife first, his country second.
Good man, Wilson.

3. The claims of partisanship...
...following on the claims of "everyone knew"...following on the claims of "Saddam was trying to buy yellowcake from Niger"...following the claims of "imminent threat"...

Bullshit on top of bullshit on top of bullshit, sprinkled with bullshit...

9. Well, yes, but how twisted is it that one has to prioritize wife/country
over the other? You would THINK the interests would be identical. But not in the good ole Murika.

2. Good article!
Thanks for the link. Mr. Wilson earns my respect more and more every time I read something new about him. It is also good to see an honest article about his past, both political and diplomatic.

6. Is this friggin huge? Might a civil lawsuit by Wilson at last inititate
the process which will bring down the BFEE's entire house of cards? What a civil lawsuit provides is quite simple, as Dean says in the Salon article:

Regardless of whether or not a special prosecutor is selected, I believe that Ambassador Wilson and his wife -- like the DNC official once did -- should file a civil lawsuit, both to address the harm inflicted on them, and, equally important, to obtain the necessary tools (subpoena power and sworn testimony) to get to the bottom of this matter.

Every time I read some more about Joe Wilson, my respect for him increases. This man is a giant.

There's no question an undercover operative was outed by senior admin. officals. That's treason. End of story.

14. Really looking forward to hearing more on Wilson's next steps
Thanks so much for posting this information. That man has courage. He and his wife have been deeply, deeply offended by some truly vicious people.

Plan to share this info., for sure.
