Official: Lists, counters, backups didn't match up (E-VOTE RE-VOTE in PA)
Location: BERKS COUNTY, PA

County personnel learned votes had been lost after they discovered that totals that should have been the same weren't, the deputy director of elections services says.

The four voting machines that did not record 114 votes in last Tuesday's primary election had vote totals that did not match the number of voters who signed in at the polling places, a Berks County election official said Monday.

Also, the total number of voters recorded on cartridges in the voting machines did not match the number of voters recorded by a backup system on each machine, said Christopher M. Winters, deputy director of Berks County Election Services.

To ensure all voters have their votes counted, there will be a special primary election for the 463 voters who voted in those four precincts. The details are still being developed, Winters said.

1. We need more stories like this one
Get rid of the voting machines and go back to paper ballots counted by human beings.

4. Voting machines are a bonehead stupid idea.
A bad non-solution to a non-problem.
Counting votes is not difficult if that is what you want to do.

6. I can't access the article from the OP link.
But it is just common sense that evoting machines are a rectangular wheel on the cart of democracy.

9. Here what they use: DRE
"Berks County has been electronically voting since 1989 with the following advantages for our citizens:

* Repeatability - no machine vote has ever changed in a recount.
* Full face ballot - no confusing need to view page after page to vote a long ballot.
* Simplicity - no paper ballots to lose or damage, no special pencils, no "chads".
* Proven track record - The same system is used in Dauphin and Philadelphia counties, and in the whole states of Delaware and Kentucky.
* Ease of use - Unofficial returns can be available early on election night.
* Fraud free - Voting machine software is not user alterable.
* Electronic reporting - guarantees accurate reports and easy website interface.
* Secure - while they are portable, the machines are not easily "misappropriated". "
