GOP Says Bolton Should Be Given U.N. Post
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20050525/ap_on_go_co/un_ambassador_10

Exhaustive investigations turned up nothing to disqualify John R. Bolton from becoming U.N. ambassador, and he should be quickly given the post, a top Republican said Wednesday as the Senate opened debate on the long-delayed nomination.

Democrats, however, signaled anew that they may still try to block the nomination, which has been the subject of weeks of wrangling over whether Bolton, an outspoken conservative, mistreated co-workers or took liberties with government intelligence.

Sen. Richard Lugar (news, bio, voting record), R-Ind., chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee that reviewed Bolton's nomination for weeks without recommending he be confirmed, offered a lukewarm endorsement of President Bush's nominee.

"We should not lose sight of the larger national security issues concerning U.N. reform and international diplomacy that are central to this nomination," Lugar said. He said Bush had chosen Bolton to "undertake this urgent mission" and "deserves to have his nominee represent him at the United Nations."

1. What I pray for, should Bolton get confirmed, is that he will spark a
global rebellion against the United States. Bush already has stroked a rebellion, but it's not a unified effort yet. Bolton could be the trigger.

2. I do not think we need
to show the world how screwed up things are. We need to show people inside this country. The media has to be in a position to no longer ignore the reality that is there for all to see. Let's get Bolton in there, let him screw it up; let him address an empty Assembly Hall.

6. Winner of this month's "You Call This NEWS?" award
Also, notice how the headline has nothing to do with the story. A single "top Republican" is not the entire "GOP," and then comes the icing on the cake--a "lukewarm" endorsement by a second Republican. I know that headlines should be snappy and attention-getting, but shouldn't they be accurate, too?
