Texas: House Committee passes new redistricting map
http://www.news8austin.com/content/top_stories/default.asp?ArID=76881

The House Redistricting Committee passed a map Saturday that redraws the state's congressional districts.

The new map, which favors Republican congressmen, could be up for a vote on the House floor Monday.
------------------------------------------------------------------

The vote will likely be held tonight. Local news is reporting that State Troopers have cordoned off the building. The Grand Old White People's Party has all of their bases covered.

22. This sounds like kidnapping.
What if there's a fire? Or a bomb threat? If the building has been cardoned off to keep people out - that one thing. To me that if they are there to keep people IN then that's something different entirely.

Any Texas attorneys in the house?

2. Good Lord
Will this hold up? I'm on the Dixie Chicks' side: embarrassed to be from Texas. *sigh* What a bunch of a-holes.

11. Yes, your statement is more accurate
I love the Lone Star State, but can't stand the politics of the moment. And, I live in Austin, right in the big fat middle of everything. I have a peace sign sticker on my car and had some guy cut me off today in traffic. He had an A&M sticker on his truck, and without going into the Longhorn/Aggie rivalry, let's suffice it to say the Aggies have never been bastions of liberal thinking. So, was his rude driving behavior a coincidence? Methinks not.

I can't believe we're wasting money on this. May Governor Goodhair and his cronies go down in flames.

24. Didn't mean to offend the DU Ags...
It's probably that Aggies have so much school spirit. My brother went there and every item of clothing in his closet was maroon and had an aggie symbol on it - even several years after he graduated. It's probably just that more Aggies put their school stickers on their cars.

However, I still stand by my opinion, that a certain majority of idiotic drivers I see in Dallas have an Aggies sticker on their car, but, it may be for the reason I stated above.

Gig um - or whatever.

thinking I'd find some fab liberal, didn't happen. Probably be
easier to stick up for the Ivy League schools!

6. So, Texas DUers - what's the prognosis?
Is this something that could seriously blow up in Gov. Goodhair's face, maiming and killing chances for for Puke electoral success in the Lone Star State?

Or will the Puke state legislators just yowl about tax cuts and shout for Jayzus when the next election rolls around?

Are people pissed off down there? Are they pissed off enough to do something about it?

13. The Texas Dems have decided to make their stand in the state Senate
...
One of the Democrats is state Sen. Eddie Lucio Jr., who represents a district along the Mexican border. He said he has little interest in a new map -- unless it includes three new Hispanic-dominated border districts. Another wavering Democrat is state Sen. Kenneth L. Armbrister, who has signaled that he might play ball on redistricting in return for benefits for health care facilities and teachers.

Speaking to reporters today, Armbrister said he had received calls over the weekend from two Democratic congressmen whose districts might be carved up by a new map. Asked whether he had returned their calls, he said, "I got other things to do."

The third fence-sitter, state Sen. Frank L. Madla of San Antonio, said today he is "praying" he will make the right decision. Previously, however, he has suggested that what really matters to him is his bill that would allow Texans to order wine over the Internet.

15. Since when does Armblister answer the phone?
I live in his district, in a county with 10% unemployment and about to get divided so that it will have even less power to help its citizens, and it is in Sen. A-hole's district. I have never been able to reach him.

I'm going hunting for him tomorrow since he doesn't take calls from constituents and doesn't have email. I wonder if his office door will be open, or if I'll have to tape my nasty note to it. Maybe if I attach some money to it, he'll pay attention.

Armbrister--bought and paid for.

26. sorry that arm blister is your Senator
pop goes the weasel. By the way I like his new moniker Arm Blister (ouch). That guy really ought to switch parties and be done with it. He's a repuke plain and simple, no Dem left in him at all. My senator sucks too, but he has an R after his name. I can't expect much from him.

Now for Madla, that guy needs to have his ass kicked (out of the party) if he gives us up. This is a guy who represents a big minority district and he's only thinking about himself. His district is running about 52-48 repuke to dem, but that's only voters. That's not the make-up of the district just the people that vote.

Sonia

This guy would sell out democracy so that Texans can buy wine on the Internet?

Senator, I live in Napa, California. I say: please don't do it. Wine can be bought in stores. Democracy is priceless.
