Fight to the finish before historic vote
Davis wants criminal investigation

Robert Salladay and Zachary Coile, Chronicle Political Writers Sunday, October 5, 2003

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Fresno -- Gov. Gray Davis, spending the final days of the recall campaign surrounded by women and prominent Democrats, suggested Saturday that actor Arnold Schwarzenegger committed a crime of sexual battery and should be investigated by law enforcement.

The governor's comments were a significant escalation of his rhetoric against his chief Republican rival in Tuesday's recall campaign. The allegations about Schwarzenegger's conduct with women, and statements he is reported to have made about Adolf Hitler, provided the Davis campaign with a dose of optimism -- mixed with astonishment at the extraordinary events over the past couple of days.

Davis aides insist that internal polls show support for the recall has dropped dramatically since the allegations surfaced three days ago, and they are using the events to their fullest without trying to sound gleeful. They said a forum Saturday highlighting Davis' support for women was planned well before the Schwarzenegger controversy erupted, but it clearly fit into the governor's urgent need to mobilize women and Democrats to vote against the recall.

Standing in front of a video screen with the words, "Respecting Women's Rights," and surrounded by Sens. Dianne Feinstein and Barbara Boxer, House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi, and his wife, Sharon Davis, the governor offered his harshest comments to date about Schwarzenegger.

2. Interesting point made in the article concerning Davis's fighting back
He's been under constant assault for ages from the vote recall Republicans. He has been ripped and shredded, over and over again. He's not suddenly going ape to point out some actual problems with the Gropinator at this late stage.

3. It is nice to see this happening.
I do have a question though. When the vote happens if Davis wins, can the repukes call another recall? And if so, on what grounds this time?

For the record if I as living in the USA and a citizen, I would be living in CA with Sapphocrat right now, and able to vote in this bullshit, I would be saying NO to the recall.

4. I don't know if multiple recalls are allowed or not
Simon, Arnold and McClintok are the biggest repugs in the state right now. Simon lost his butt in the regular election then dropped out of this one, McClintok is not getting a lot of support and he is very conservative. If Arnold loses, who would they run? Issa? He already pulled out, citing problems that he had to deal with in Washington. Issa ran against Boxer for the Senate and lost, he put his name in for the Governor job and his criminal past was immediatley brought up, he dropped out. If Arnold were to lose, they have no body to run. I don't think Arianna Huffington is going to let go of Arnolds B.S. in his news articles for awhile. This will look bad for repugs. Will Bush come to CA for a photo op with Arnold if he is portrayed as the POS that he is?

"Will Bush come to CA for a photo op with Arnold if he is portrayed as the POS that he is?"

7. He did not rub elbows with Simon
Edited on Sun Oct-05-03 08:14 AM by jamesinca
He came to CA shook his hand then quickly made an exit. He had a hard time being tough on corporate crime and shaking Simons hand at the same time. He would have a hard time saying he stands for christian family values and shaking Arnolds hand. He is very shrewd about the photo-op.
