Calif's Davis Comes Back Swinging at Schwarzenegger

SAN JOSE/SACRAMENTO (Reuters) - Bouyed by fresh reports of sexual misconduct by rival Arnold Schwarzenegger and a poll showing more erosion in efforts to recall him, Gov. Gray Davis (news - web sites) on Sunday renewed his attacks on the actor turned politician, who in turn rallied thousands to the capital.


Davis charged into the final stage of the wild recall battle demanding Schwarzenegger, his chief rival for the state's top job in Tuesday's recall election, explain in detail what was behind the sexual harassment charges he now faces.


At least 15 women have alleged Schwarzenegger groped or harassed them, as recently as 2000, with four fresh allegations emerging on Saturday, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Davis appeared emboldened by a fresh internal poll suggesting support for the recall had fallen below 50 percent -- with 49 percent in favor and 48 percent against in a poll of 400 registered voters late Saturday, down from 50 percent in favor and 48 percent opposed late Friday.

I believe the race is very close at this point.

They estimate that up to 25% of people are voting absentee. The absentee ballots are going to be a killer here. They were mostly cast pre LA Times story.

Sorry I can't name them but there are still polls out there that show Davis losing and that Gropergate isn't having much effect on the race.

Think it's ugly now? Just wait and see what happens if Ah-nold wins.

Know someone who might not vote? Drag them to the polls, babysit their kids, whatever it takes to get out the vote.

I emailed the LA Times, SF Chronicle, ABCNews.com and CNN that same article asking them to cover that issue rather than focusing on the sexual allegations against Arnold, or his admiration of Hitler. You may want to encourage others to do the same. I think this issue effects all Californians....let's face it, no one likes thinking they are being ripped off, especially when they are already hurting financially.

the Dumbinator and Crew wouldn't really have time to answer it. But it would have been better if it came out today. For some reason though, my bet is it never comes out, even if Groper is elected and does the 2 cents on the dollar deal. Something tell me it would never even be an outrage then, even though he met with Kenny boy about it so far back.

I do not feel that California can afford to lose the 9 Billion dollars it is owed by the energy corporations that took unfair advantage of califonia during the energy crises. With a projected 8 Billion dollar deficit in next year's budget it is unconscionable for anyone to consider letting energy pirates like Enron, Reliant, Dynegy, and the Williams Company off the hook. This is a very important issue and I feel that the voting public here in California should be made aware of the potential consequences of voting someone like Arnold into officewho may be willing to let the suit against these businesses be settled for less.

Considering that my neice's public school has no money for counselors, gym, art, music or field trips why would Californian's want to see even more money that could be used for public programs disappear? I will be voting NO on recall. I urge all other Californian's to do the same. Let's hope Davis can beat the recall. Arrivederci, dahlings!

I don't know how much of an impact that would make. How many of those 2 mil would vote differently today?

Said that he has been talking to students on CA campuses, and only 20 of the state campuses in CA have voting sites .... and that for Tuesday's recall election only 1800 of LA County's 5000 voting sites will be open.

There seems to be an effort to discourage people to vote by making it inconvenient for them to even find a place at which to cast their vote !!!

Maybe most of the absentee votes are Dems who don't trust any new electronic voting system... like us.

All we can do at this point is keep working to expose the truth about Schwarzenegger, and bring out the vote against the recall and for our backup candidate.

absentee ballots that went out of this house and all voted NO. The Dems were pushing absentee ballots cause only 30% of the usual polling places are going 2 B open. My usual polling place is 3 blocks away in a neighbor garage. Tuesday it would B 2 1/2 miles away @ the high school. Parking will B Xtremely limited as school will B in session, plus U R wandering around a crowded campus looking 4 the room set aside as the polling place. Rethugs R counting on this!

Too bad the wimpy Democrats in California won out and wouldn't let Davis go on the attack from day one.

If they would have given him freedom to destroy Arnold from the start, this would be a whole different race.

the polls are meaningless here because it will all hedge on turnout.
If muscleheads show up more, they'll get a republican governor, if democrats vote in mass, Davis or Bustamante will win. Incidentally, the fanatical support among groping arnolds supporters makes me believe we dems need to reconsider gun control like Howard Dean did.
If I lived next to a musclehead supporter I'd want to own an assault rifle.

...because it's too complicated for the sheeple to grasp. Any story that isn't obvious from the headline isn't going to hurt Ahhnold at this point--and even the caveat "that isn't obvious fromt the headline" may be too optimistic...

Republican Arnold Schwarzenegger, who last week accused Democrat Cruz Bustamante of ``skirting and violating'' California's campaign-finance laws, has found a loophole of his own that could prevent voters from knowing who is underwriting his campaign before Election Day.

Schwarzenegger has loaned his two campaign committees $4.5 million, despite a voter-approved law that was supposed to restrict such loans to $100,000 in order to limit post-election fundraising. By loaning funds, candidates can tap donors after they're in office to repay the debt, and voters won't know before Election Day who really is paying for the campaign.

I'd like to hear the Groper's explanation. What possible reason could he have for this except to keep his special interest money a secret?
