Atrocity video may prepare ground for Serb arrests
"BELGRADE (Reuters) - Film of paramilitary soldiers slaughtering six young Bosnian Muslim captives in 1995 has opened another crack in the wall of Serbian war crimes denial and major arrests may follow, officials said on Friday.

The brief home video shocked Wednesday evening television news audiences across the country. On a leafy mountain road speckled by sunshine and shadow, the young men, beaten and terrified, are killed with hands tied behind their backs.

The killing was casual, sneering.

"This video will mark a turning point in the minds of our public and make it easier for the government to fulfil its commitments toward the (Hague war crimes) tribunal," said Minister for Human Rights Rasim Ljajic, a Muslim."

3. I remember when Clinton and NATO stopped the genocide ...
the republicans cried and cried "what about the exit strategy?!"

Funny how they stopped worrying about exit strategies following the Supreme Court decision in Bush v. Gore.

IIRC, that same time frame is when Trent Lott said it was possible to be patriotic and support the troops but not support the President.

5. I watched the full video yesterday. Horrific!
Horrific! They look like kids, teenagers! It is incredible that there are people all across Europe and all around the globe that still defend, excuse, or even support genocide committed by Serbs. This video will stay in my memory for along time.

Not nearly as bad as some of the ones the Chechens released doing what they did to the Russians they'd capture.

14. No kidding ...
The one where the Chechen soldier stands on the Russian guy's head and then saws through his windpipe with a knife is indelibly stamped in my memory.

:scared:

16. 25% population of Chechnya is gone.
Edited on Fri Jun-03-05 01:25 PM by Chopin
Either dead or evacuated. Nobody is really sure. Russians aren't letting anybody in. Journalists routinely disappear. Entire areas of the country are closed off by Russians. What little has come out seems horrific. All courtesy of Kremlin. Anyone who supported genocide in Chechnya or Balkans has some serious issues.

9. Everyone should see this
So many people are denying this ever happened. I am so glad that this is available. What happened in the Balkans was horrible, and the Republican wanted nothing to do with it.

10. I have a Serbian neighbor.
Guy is seriously deluded. He came to US in mid 1990s I think, he's a car mechanic. Keeps saying its all a western propaganda campaign and lies with a purpose to destroy Serbian honor or some crap like that. In his mind all the evidence is either fake or twisted around in order to portray Serbs as evil. Hates Clinton with a passion. I confronted him once with clear evidence of mass graves in Bosnia and elsewhere, graves that were filled with remains of women and children, he simply said that they had it coming. This guy is just like some of those holocaust deniers. I haven't spoken to him in over a year. I wonder what he would say about this video.

12. Oh forget this stuff, CNN's reporting on yet another of the endless parade
of missing beautiful blonde white-girls who's been reported missing within the continental USA. True to form, CNNs now parading the parents on TV to glean every last bit of "trashy sensationalism" from this tragedy.

Hey, why worry yourself about genocide somewhere else. Wake up citizen, it's the USA that's considered the center of the universe. :sarcasm:

20. You've got that right!
It's either Oil or blonde missies that we would "die" for.

When one Googles, one can find an entire generation of Serb Apologists writing about how Genocide didn't occur in the Balkans. the 200,000 deaths in Bosnia didn't convince them....and the MERE 10,000 that died in Kosovo were just not enough dead people to satisfy them into understanding that STOPPING Genocide means....there was not going to be statistics into the hundreds of thousands. To this day, these extremists still demand big numbers of piles and piles of bodies for proof of genocide. Go figure!

These are the same folks who call Clinton and Clark and Albright "war Criminals" cause there were 500 civilian casualties caused by the bombing to stop the Genocide. That's a lot of civilians, but when compared to what might have happened had we not intervene.....it's a relatively low number.

These same folks also don't want us near Darfur, either. 300,000 to 400,000 dead bodies there just can't overide the fact that there is oil in the Sudan...for these nut jobs.

21. many members of the right-wing "Christians can do no wrong" crowd
here in the U.S. deny that any atrocities occurred in the former Yugoslavia. I think that they'll conveniently ignore this new piece of evidence.
