15 C-130s, and room to spare
http://www.wvgazette.com/section/News/2005060522

In May, the Pentagon said Yeager Airport doesn’t have room for more than eight C-130 Hercules cargo planes. On Sunday, the West Virginia Air National Guard proved the Pentagon wrong.

Fifteen of the behemoth planes landed and parked at Yeager in the afternoon during training exercises, and there’s even room for a couple more.

The Department of Defense recommended in May that the Air National Guard base at Yeager be stripped of its aircraft. One reason it cited was that the airbase didn’t have room for more aircraft.

it makes you wonder how the entire base closing process occurs or whatever the proper word is

the DOD is clearly wrong on this and how many other bases have been put on the chopping block for reasons that are incorrect

gee, do you think that it could be political?

1. Our Senators here in Maine - political party aside for the moment
They're proving that the data used was incorrect. They've also sued for the entire data.

2. Does anyone know who gathered the info?
Was it the military itself or a civilian group like the Rand Corporation? Did they actually do an investigation or just gather info from the standard reports that are sent in to the Pentagon by every base?

3. Of course, the Air Farce has an oversupply of C-130s, ...
courtesy of Trent Lott. But in deciding where to park them, as well as to how many to procure, there can be no doubt that the decisions are political.
