Gen. Tommy Franks Agrees to Book Deal
NEW YORK -- Army Gen. Tommy Franks, who planned and commanded the American-led wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, has agreed to terms to write his memoirs.

The book, currently untitled, will be published by ReganBooks, an imprint of HarperCollins. Financial terms were not disclosed, but Franks had reportedly been seeking a seven-figure deal.

"General Franks' story not only addresses the key issues of leadership and modern warfare at a critical juncture in world history, it is also an inspired tale of a young soldier who rose through the ranks of the U.S. Army to the position of commander-in-chief of the United States Central Command," ReganBooks president Judith Regan said in a statement Monday.

2. Seven figure deal, huh?
Even bulk purchases by Rupert Murdoch won't make that turd of a book profitable.

4. My career as an easy going yes-man
I read an in-depth article about him several months ago, I think it was in the New Yorker, or possibly Harper's, I can't remember. The main thing I got out of it was how completely unremarkable that man is. He seems to have been chosen because he was generally liked and inoffensive and was someone Rummy could control. Most of the other top brass was upset that Franks didn't really try to counter a lot of Rummy's nuttier "new army" ideas.

Oh yeah, and he and Laura Bush went to high school together.

Franks should be thankful she didn't kill him with her car in high school.

8. Franks' wife also ordered around officers
like they were her personal assistants.

Go pick up my dry cleaning, Lieutenant.
