White House lawyers screen documents to send FBI

The White House began shipping documents Wednesday to the FBI for its CIA leak investigation after screening the material, a concern for some constitutional experts who say that gives the Bush administration room to withhold information.

Some 2,000 White House employees were asked to turn over telephone records, notes, correspondence, diary entries and other information that might help the FBI learn who leaked the identity of undercover CIA operations officer Valerie Plame.

Investigators already have interviewed Plame, the wife of former Ambassador Joseph C. Wilson, who publicly questioned Bush's claim that Iraq had tried to buy uranium in Africa.

"We are moving as quickly as we can to get the information to the Justice Department," White House press secretary McClellan said Wednesday evening.

2. Munch, munch, munch...
Of course, the word 'screen' is being used in this case by its lesser-known meaning, 'shred so fine that it can pass through a screen'...

3. I just will not believe that the CIA
didn't think through these likely eventualities before they went public with requesting an FBI investigation. The CIA's internal investigation was the first step. If they didn't know they could pin this on the admin, I don't think it would have gone this far.

4. Oh, I don't think the CIA cares about this charade,
this ridiculous side show. Dana Priest, a WP reporter, said in an online chat today to "wait until next week". I feel there are more bombs about to be dropped.

5. Isn't this highly unusual for a criminal investigation
That the party being subject to the investigation is allowed to select what they allow the police to see?

Oh, I forgot, it's not ordinary street criminals we are dealing with.

9. DOJ can go into our homes sans warrent and not even bother to tell us
All they have to do is decide we have aided terrorists in some way. don't even have to explain their criteria. Wonderful thing that Patriot Act, don't ya think? So why in blazed all the stone walling about an incident which outed an agent and crippled a serious operation which tracked the movement of dangerous substances so in demand with terrorists?

They can hack my 'puter and call up my library card use but they can't go in and take what they need to get to the bottom of a treasonous act?

Letters... we need lots and lots of letters to every paper in the country.

6. I know the deadline passed
during the ahnold/media cirus, but they did NOT meet it. They are also deciding what to release and screening it first, this is illegal. Of course I really did'nt expect to hear anything from the corporate media, but has anyone had any problem with this(outside of DU, I mean.).

8. the "deadline" was set by White House Counsel
and was entirely meaningless. DOJ still has not taken an active role in seeking information. They're waiting for their pals at 1600 to sterilize it first.

7. " after screening the material"
well - what they hey !!

Just a dumm canuk observation

If they can "edit" the evidence

- this be not a "TRUE" investigation

I sense guilt in the WH

(was there any doubt?)

Trouble is - most of the "sheeples" will buy it -

Just My Humble Canuk Opinion

(sigh)
