Senate Defeats Move to Cap Climate Gases
WASHINGTON - The Senate soundly defeated a proposal Wednesday for mandatory reductions in heat-trapping pollution that may be warming the Earth. Supporters managed to get five fewer votes than they did two years ago.

The proposal to cap greenhouse gases at 2000 levels, within five years, lost by a 60-38 vote. It was a victory for President Bush's policies that focus on voluntary actions by industry to address the problem.

Separately, the Senate agreed to give Washington clear authority to override states' objections to the location of liquefied natural gas terminals.

Senators rejected, by 52-45, an amendment to a broad energy bill that would have allowed governors to veto a federal permit for such a terminal because of state concerns about safety or environmental harm.

5. So stupid.
What a great victory for the "winners". You can be smug in the smog, with the rest of us, too.

What's wrong with a free market solution of trading caps? How does a voluntary program ever incentivize industry to address pollution? Gee, maybe they could create growth industries addressing pollution problems?

Sad that so many people still don't make the connection that this administration is bought and paid for by Big Oil and Big War.

6. What possible reason could there be for not limiting these gases?
Are a few extra dollars to curb pollution going to 'ruin' there bottom line (corporations that is...). Did they even bother to ask US if we would spend a few extra dollars to curb pollution? I rather pay little more than to DIE.

I guess our government wants to kill us off and the planet.

These people surly do not represent the citizenship.

9. They just don't realize that Mother Nature is not on their side...
They to are going to be burnt to a crisp - like the rest of us.

Global warming IS happening - now.

Been outside lately? It isn't that it is 'hotter' outside - it is more of the case where the sun is 'more intense'... A burning thru UV instead.

Be careful everybody....
