Venezuelan lawmakers: US relations depend largely on Posada case

The health of future relations between the United States and Venezuela will largely depend on the outcome Venezuela's request for the extradition of a man accused of planning the 1976 bombing of a Cuban airliner, ruling party lawmakers said Wednesday.

Ricardo Gutierrez, flanked by fellow members of President Hugo Chavez's ruling party, said "relations will be determined by the decision regarding the request made by the Venezuelan government."

Gutierrez and two other pro-Chavez legislators traveled to Washington last week to hold meetings with U.S. State Department officials and lawmakers while lobbying for the extradition request.

Charles Shapiro, a State Department official and former American ambassador to Venezuela, told the Venezuelan delegation that the Posada case would be dealt with by U.S. courts - not the government, said Gutierrez.

How will _Bush get by with this? The Venezuelan gubmint has asked the U.S. gubmint to extradite him. Why shouldn't _Bush comply with the request? He can't say it's out of his hands. That would be a rude lie.

If they did did, other 'assets' may get nervous and barf out 'beans'.

But when push comes to shove that 16% percent of the oil they send to us looms fairly large down the road.
