Nationals newest weapon in war on terror could be in Sugar Land(TX)
By The Associated Press
(6/23/05 - HOUSTON) — Sugar Land could be the home of the nation's newest tool in the war on terror. Its mayor is close to getting federal funds to build to regional logistics center, a specialized warehouse for emergency response equipment.

Homeland Security has put a lot of money into cities and counties, giving them funds to buy emergency gear so they can quickly respond to terror attacks. But that pot of money is shrinking, so a local politician is trying to make the most of what's left.
Since 911, homeland security has taken on new meaning for most of us. It certainly has for Sugar Land Mayor David Wallace, who for the last two years has been working on how cities can better respond to emergencies, whether they're natural disasters or man made. He's getting help from the Houston-Galveston Area Council.

~snip~

And it could be run by a private company, which would front much of the cost until the gear is really needed.

"The idea would be to take some of this equipment or other equipment, put it together and then share the cost of keeping it maintained and having it available at any given time," said John Granby with Lion Apparel.

1. Bringin' home the pork
I'm sure there will be much more money going Sugarland's way (as well as other little suburbs of Houston) as Delay finds his ass in a huge crack going into next year's elections.
