HOUSTON, June 24 -- Pebercan Inc., Montreal, plans more drilling on Block 7 along Cuba's north coast after success at the Seboruco-11 horizontal development well.

The company said the well, 340 m east of Seboruco-10, went to 4,855 m MD and penetrated three successive reservoirs along a total length of 1,440 m. It produced 3,500 b/d of oil on a 48-hr test on a 16-mm choke and was placed on long-term test.

1. Brazil, Spain, etc., all in exploration deals with Cuba
From January 2005:

<clips>

...The discovery announced last month already has Cuba-watchers in America and officials in Havana pondering potential changes in relations with the United States. American companies are currently prohibited from drilling in waters about 100 miles, or 160 kilometers, from the coast of Florida.

American energy companies quietly chafe at restrictions that put Cuban territory off limits to them while Canadians, Spaniards and Brazilians search Cuban waters for offshore wildcatting possibilities. A significant oil discovery, one that could turn Cuba into an oil exporter from an importer, might prompt calls for reviewing policies that exclude the great majority of American companies from trading with Cuba.

3. Remember whenJohn Bolton accused Cuba of having WMD?
Bolton said that Cuba had an advanced program of bioweapons right after the fall of Baghdad. Neocons were so happy about their war that they were talking about the next one before Bush's now infamous "Mission Accomplished" photo-op.
