Tabloid donates to burn group after calling injured police officer 'ugly'
<PHOENIX A foundation for burn victims in Arizona will get a donation from a tabloid after a Phoenix police officer who suffered disfiguring burns was labeled as "ugly" by the paper.

The owner of the Weekly World News included Officer Jason Schechterle (SHEK'-tur-lee) on a list of "top ten ugliest people" in a February issue. Schechterle suffered severe burns to his hands and face when his patrol car was hit from behind by a taxi and exploded in flames in 2001. Schechterle was so badly burned that surgeons had to strip away his face, covered in dead tissue, to save his life.

The amount of the donation has not been disclosed but those involved call it significant. Schechterle says the donation will fund critical programs for people and causes closest to his heart.>

1. That rag demonstrated the true meaning of "ugly"
And here's another of their stories...Bush's retarded brother. Bizarre meets the ridiculous.

WASHINGTON SCANDAL: SECRET SON
Bush Family Tragedy Too Shocking To Reveal!

By NICK JEFFREYS

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- With two presidents and a governor in the family, the Bushes are forced to hide their skeletons well. But one of our sources inside the White House discovered an amazing, horrifying secret that would wreak havoc on the clan if it were made public.

Deep inside the most remote, private rooms of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue dwells a fifth brother who was born 40 years ago to the wealthy Bush family with a silver spoon in his mouth -- literally.

The four Bush siblings America knows -- George Jr., Jeb, Neil and Marvin -- are reported to visit their mentally challenged sibling Jethro as much as their busy schedules allow.

Mom Barbara and dad George Sr. reportedly take Jethro to their home in Texas as often as they can, but he loves his clandestine quarters in the presidential mansion.

"It's like one of those movies where the family hides the crazy person in the attic," says our insider. "The Bushes are kindhearted people who are very good to Jethro and love him dearly, but he's not exactly someone they'd want to prance around with in public.

"A small sterling silver spoon is embedded in the bottom of his tongue and top of his jaw. The handle protrudes about three inches from his mouth. ...cont'd

(requires QuickTime), and this story in a REAL newspaper.

NOW - AND THEN. A photo of himself reminds Jason Schechterle how he used to look. He suffered fourth-degree burns when his patrol car went up in flames after being struck by a taxi.

FOURTH degree burns? I've NEVER heard of burn going beyond three degrees!

4. Ugly is as ugly does. WWN's owner may have some karma headed his way.
A very nice gentleman in our community was also facially disfigured by some kind of blazing explosion. After you talk to him a few times, you don't really notice because he's such a charming fellow. It isn't as severe as the officer, but at first glance the disfigurement is striking.

It would be extremely difficult and a challenge deep to the soul to try to live with having looked normal (and handsome), and then literally having your face stripped away.

dealing with the extensive surgery he's had to undergo. This man, his wife and family, doctors and members of the Phoenix police department are fantastic people. And he's actually gone back to work in the PD in Public Relations. Really inspiring story.

Shame on that stupid piece of crap tabloid.

6. The donation is 'real swell'
but how much better it would be if brains and compassion were used first before spouting off with ugliness. x(
