President Caught In Another Lie
http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article4110.htm

This is just one more example of president Bush hiding one lie behind another.

07/15/03: During a press briefing at the Whitehouse with United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan on Monday, 07/14/03, our president continued to lie to the American people.

This latest instance of Presidential deceit relates to the reasons for the U.S. invasion of Iraq.

When questioned about his comments in the state of the union address relating to the now discredited claim that Iraq tried to buy Uranium yellowcake from Niger, the president said.

"The larger point is, and the fundamental question is, did Saddam Hussein have a weapons program? And the answer is, absolutely. And we gave him a chance to allow the inspectors in, and he wouldn't let them in. And, therefore, after a reasonable request, we decided to remove him from power, along with other nations, so as to make sure he was not a threat to the United States and our friends and allies in the region. I firmly believe the decisions we made will make America more secure and the world more peaceful."

This as clearly a lie by our president, "And we gave him a chance to allow the inspectors in, and he wouldn't let them in. And, therefore, after a reasonable request, we decided to remove him from power"

President Bush has rewritten history and provided a new reason as to why he ordered the US invasion of Iraq.

The actual circumstances were that the UN inspectors were in Iraq and the Iraqi government was providing unfettered access to UN weapons inspectors. UN inspectors were busy dismantling Iraqi missiles when they were instructed to leave Iraq, prior to the US - UK invasion.

I saw some reply of his yesterday, from in front of the fireplace in the Occupied WH. His wording and 'reasoning' reminded me of that of a not-so-bright 8 year old.

How much longer are his supporters going to put up with this charade?? Even to them, he must be an embarassment!!

The proper term nowdays is 'Job Coach'.

It helps Very Special People like Bush feel like they are accomplishing something all by themselves.

11. Try the "SEC exonerated me on that" lie
When running in 2000, he was confronted with the Harken stock sale, and said this, including the word "exonerated". At the end of the letter notifying him that they'd be calling off the investigation, it specifically says this is not to be considered an exoneration.

If you want to quibble, saying he may not have seen this or lawyers hadn't informed him or some other greasy crap like that, the flat statement tacitly says that he knows what he's speaking about. If he doesn't, then it's a lie to imply that you do. This is technically and actually a lie.

(Never mind the fact that the real Harken problem was that he helped other insiders defraud the stockholders by creating a shell corporation to purchase Aloha Petroleum at an inflated price to pump the bottom line. He was on the Audit Board at the time...)

5. unbelievably arrogant and ignorant...
for one thing, like he is fooling anyone when he says that he wrote the speech. geeez, who can honestly believe he is capable of that. he reads what is given to him, he says what he is told to say. but sometimes he can't remember his lines and perhaps he goes off script like this time... this is a huge gaffe.... the media will pounce on this once they digest it... bush doesn't know his head from his ass... he probably only has a foggy idea of the events leading up to the war... he is under the impression that "he" invaded iraq because Saddam wouldn't let inspectors in... no, bush, that was GOING to be the reason LAST summer but then he let them in, remember? um... mr. president, remember?

8. There's a ton of discussion about this over in GD
I'm taking credit for this one, folks. I caught him saying it yesterday, found the transcript last night, posted it in GD, then blasted emails all over the place informing any reporter I could think of. Today, we know it was mentioned by Dana Milbank, in Newsday, in Salon, on Talking Points, on Crossfire, and here......... ALL of those were contacted by me or by other DUers who saw my post last night. So, WE did this one!!!!!!!

Here are the GD threads:

22. I have certainly learned how effective we can be!
Edited on Tue Jul-15-03 08:08 PM by kainah
It's been simply astonishing to see how it is getting picked up by people -- and so cool to know that I had a hand in it. I'm having one of the best nights I've had in a couple years because of the remarkable success of our actions last night. Yippee!!!!!

edited to add: it certainly does help to educate folks by posting info here at DU but everyone should keep a list -- and try to establish a relationship with some -- of reporters, columnists, bloggers, etc., to whom you can send this kind of material when you have it. They don't see everything, they don't always pay as much attention & it's easy to miss stuff. So, rather than just assuming they are all whores who don't want to cover the important stuff, make sure that they are given the facts.

And then, when the story spreads, the feeling is GREAT!!!!!!! I guarantee you!

13. Maybe he got loose from his handlers
As in the cannon got loose. It really is inconceivable that one man (well maybe Dan Quayle) could be so out of touch with reality. It's like he is clinging onto denial and praying he will wake up soon and the world will like him.

25. A suggested program for Bush*, who's "clinging onto denial..."
Step 1: We admitted we were powerless over lying and WMDs -- that our lives had become unmanageable.

Step 2: Came to believe the Constitution -- a power greater than ourselves -- could restore us to sanity.

Step 3: Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of democracy in the United States as interpreted in the Bill of Rights.

Step 4: Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves.

Step 5: Admitted to the American people, to ourselves, and to Congress the exact nature of our wrongs.

Step 6: Were entirely ready to have Congress remove all these defects of character through impeachment.

Step 7: Humbly asked the Congress to remove ourselves and our partners-in-crime.

Step 8: Made a list of all persons persons we had harmed or caused to die, and became willing to make amends to them all or to their survivors.

Step 9: Made direct amends to such people who were still alive, wherever possible, except when to do so would endanger them further or cause them to die.

Step 10: Continued to take personal and corporate inventory and when we were wrong promptly admitted it in sworn deposition.

Step 11: Sought through meditation and daily press conferences to improve our conscious contact with the American people as we understood them, praying only that we could further understand them and their needs and the power to improve the lives of the downtrodden and neglected.

Step 12: Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to the hardcore Freepers and to practice Democratic principles in all our affairs.

(with thanks and apologies to AA...!)

44. Reagan and bush
I was just thinking yesterday about how similar bush and reagan actually are. Both are/were figureheads for the real power brokers behind the president. Both cut taxes and drove up huge deficits. Both were less than mental giants but reagan was charming, could act (a little), and could read a speech. Neither were accused of deep thinking. Many of the same 'powers' ran both administrations. Both had corrupt administrations that did illegal and probably unconstitutional things in other countries. Big corporations got rich under their administrations. And of course, the press gave both a free pass (of course, they called Reagan the teflon president because none of the charges stuck) Out of the last 3 republican presidents, two were clueless figureheads. And we're afraid of repugs why???

that he's totally out of the loop. He doesn't know what the hell's going on, and no one even bothers

veers off script, as is obvious here, he screws up the facts. He's too stupid to know he's lying.

49. Well it is an interesting question
whether he knows he is lying or not. In a way, it is less scary to think that he and Rummy and all their minions are simply diabolical liars than to suppose they are truly focused on a single warped view of reality and reject anything that doesn't connect with that view. In short, that they are in a very real sense delusional.

But, think about it, this guy has failed at everything he has ever undertaken in his life and he actually doesn't know it. He has no self-awareness, and he has surrounded himself with people of a rather similar mindset. This is really terrifying, and you can see the results.

But, take heart. They have bothced this whole defense of the war propaganda so badly that no one will be able to put it together again.
