Comments on President Bush's Speech

Wednesday June 29, 2005 2:01 AM

By The Associated Press

``Iraq cannot be a failure. Our troops deserve a real plan for victory and our total support. We're ready to work with the president, every one of the Democratic senators, but he must acknowledge his mistakes and set forth a realistic course for the future.'' - Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid of Nevada.

``Stopping evil will require bringing stability throughout the Middle East. It won't be easy, but it is a fight the United States must continue - and win. It is unfortunate that many Democratic leaders have chosen to politicize the war on terror and ignore the good work that our armed services are doing.'' - House Speaker Dennis Hastert, R-Ill.

``The American people now know that the war in Iraq is not making our country safer. Tonight, let's forget the rosy scenarios and the reminders about how tough the job is. Let's not divide our country by saying who's for the troops and who are not. We're all for the troops, and we view our support for the troops to be measured by not only the equipment we give them, the intelligence, but by a level of planning, again, to meet their level of sacrifice.'' - House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif.

``As we mark the first anniversary of Iraqi sovereignty, we must remember that 25 million people have been liberated and now enjoy the promise of both freedom and self-determination. Democrat leaders may call that a 'grotesque mistake,' but I call it a humanitarian miracle, and I thank the president for his leadership in fighting this war.'' - House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, R-Texas.

1. Dammit! The same old story...
The Dems always get rolled in these post-game wrapups, at least according to the quotes selected by the @#$%$ media.

In the OP I see four comments: two Dems expressing support for the troops, and two corrupt assholes attacking the Dems.

I'm having another drink. Or three.

8. Barbara Mikulski sounds OK
"The president needs a new plan for bringing our troops home, and taking care of them when they do. He also needs a new secretary of defense."

6. Unfortunately, in 2008 dem or repuk
I am afraid they both will continue this slaughter of our young people, along with the iraqiis

eventually we will loose when the cost in lives, and resources become too much for us to bear, but I see very few democrats willing to speak truth to power, and those that do will not get the nomination

It's already a failure.

Bring them home.

10. We know who is responsible for bringing
instability to the mideast. The raving lunatic members of Bushco and their rash rush to war have created a situation that will never be resolved. Our inept leadership should pull out of Iraq NOW and worry about the future of our country and let the rest of the world take care of their own problems.
