Peru deputy minister - Government hasn't met mining area needs

LIMA (MarketWatch) -- Conflicts in the mining sector are percolating nationwide, but Peru's Energy and Mines Ministry is making a concerted effort to stave them off, Deputy Mines Minister Romulo Mucho said Tuesday. <snip>

Mucho said that the government has failed to meet basic needs in areas near mining projects and as a result people have lost faith in both the companies and the government. <snip>

Mining has boomed in the mineral-rich Andean nation, with rising exports of copper, zinc, gold and molybdenum.
