NPR Reports that Rush Limbaugh admitted to his drug addiction on air today
NPR just reported that Rush admitted to being addicted to prescription painkillers today on the air, and states his intention to undergo a thirty-day rehab program.

I have personal experience with dealing with addiction issues, and the compassionate part of me understands and wishes Mr. Limbaugh the best in dealing with this serious health issue.

The side of me that despises hypocrisy absolutely loathes this despicable individual, in light of his previous stances on drug issues. This is just another example that it always seems to be the ones screaming the loudest about a problem of "virtues" always seems to be the ones that are grappling with those demons themselves. It is far easier to scream loudly that some extrinsic force provide moral compass, and cast blame on everything around them for being the evil influences that lead to immoral behaviors, when in fact, these individuals aren't willing to acknowledge that morality and behavior are issues that are dealt with from within. This is why it is called "personal responsibility." One of the things that addicts are taught in dealing with their addictions is that we are going to have lots of influences, and lots of feelings. It is the choices that we make, how we act on these urges and feelings, that defines our character.

Rush is a man of questionable character.

4. I disagree. Rush's character is not inquestion.
We know absolutely that he is a lying hypocrite.

5. I listened to Rush's 'confession' on the radio
on the way home from work. Well done, I thought. A little humility will do you good, Rush. In spite of the testimonial, his voice showed little sign of humility. Instead, he sounded brazen and cocky as ever.

His speech ended with the promise that right after his announcement, he was shipping off to a 30-day treatment center for drug addiction.

Once Rush gets checked in, he will be cut off from his painkillers. He's going to have to hard-knuckle it for a few days. It sounds like his drugs are very addictive, so this might be an issue.

Also, once the drugs have worn off, he will be going to his first meeting. The first thing they will teach him is the First Step of AA which states that he is powerless over alcohol (narcotics) and it has made his life a shambles. He's going to have to face up to this one.

It requires honesty. It requires humility. Otherwise, he can't make it through the other 11 steps.
