Worley picks Diebold over recommended firm for new voter system

Secretary of State (Alabama) Nancy Worley's choice of a company to develop a statewide voter registration system surprised an advisory committee that had unanimously recommended two competitors.

Worley, a Democrat, said she picked Diebold Inc. because its bid of $2.3 million was much lower than the $3.88 million bid by a partnership of Electronic Data Systems and SysCon and $3.92 million bid by a partnership of Election Systems & Software and Unisys, The Huntsville Times reported.

A 24-member advisory committee, which includes Democratic and Republican public officials as well as private citizens, spent more than a year in deliberations and unanimously recommended the partnership of ES&S and Unisys.

that spits out my balance everytime I withdraw $$$. Man, sometimes I am in outter space.

10. The Democrats in Palm Beach County approved buying

electronic voting machines even though Jeb Bush and Kathleen Harris were pushing their purchase. You think that would have made them go hmmm... maybe this isn't such a great idea. Not to mention the MIT report that concluded electronic voting machines were more unreliable than punch card machines (with the hanging chads).

I don't understand why so many people who are making these decisions purchase these vulnerable voting machines.

Oh and the price that Diebold quoted for the software... $152k? I wouldn't be surprised if it ends up costing a million or two more than that.
