Young Republican meeting target of military question

Despite an Internet effort to drum up opposition, several hundred of the nation's most ambitious young Republicans convened Thursday with little controversy.

Activists of a loosely organized campaign called "Operation Yellow Elephant" had threatened to protest the Young Republican National Convention at Mandalay Bay this week.

They argue that Young Republicans who support the war in Iraq should enlist in the military, especially given recent lags in recruiting.

Their motto: Sign up or shut up.

Only too eageer to send someone else to fight in their place to preserve their own Republican Good Times at the Mandalay Bay. I'm sure the young repubs will drink a toast of some exquisite champagne to salute those from the "lower classes" who are up to their asses in sand fleas and snipers.

I think the "Yellow Elephants" were the ones protesting the convention...get it Yellow (cowardly) Elephants (repubs)....

These guys were the "good guys" here.

I don't think they become fully fledged Chickenhawks until they grow up and send other men and women into war.

Young GOP Eager to Face Hillary Clinton

LAS VEGAS (AP) - Young Republicans have one thing to say to Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton about a possible 2008 presidential bid: Bring it on.

Members attending the group's biennial convention said it's not too early to talk about how to keep a Republican in the White House, and they believe Clinton could help them win again if she were on the Democratic ticket.

``I think it's very likely the senator from New York will run,'' said Rick Veenstra, 27, chairman of the Illinois Young Republicans. ``She'll bring a lot of people to the polls. The name Clinton before a number of Republicans is akin to waving a red flag.''

Convention guests attended several panels and training seminars on Thursday, including one on how to mobilize young voters by ``keeping it positive not partisan.'' They were told the only demographic President Bush lost to Sen. John Kerry in 2004 was those ages 18 to 29.

Pentagon representatives have recently said that recruiting is the most challenging it has been in decades.

There's plenty of us old guys who can applaud from a distance. Rush will take your share of clapping and hoo-rah BS.

Many of our young military men and women, although they may not identifing themsleves as a republican, voted for bush. Bush gave them pay raises. In the military, there is a general perception that the right speaks for their interests. They see the flag wavers when they leave or when they come back--like flag waving ever saved a life. Some of those are in combat as we speak, and some of them are dying and being injured--right now. And those little right wing idiots run around and think they speak for them. We, who know the war is illegal and morally wrong, who want our soldiers to come home alive and uninjured, our voice isn't as strong in the military. In fact it's beyond sad, it's sick, sick, sick. Every one of those little idiots needs to sign up.

Give the frontline soldier a little raise to keep the hoo-raws going so chimpy looks good in front of the troops, then take it away when they get injured or killed, hide the caskets, starve the VA, cut medical benefits, make them pay for their own food and transportation. Yeah, repugs support the troops-not.

Unbelievable. This is one issue I just lose words. How can those monsters send kids into war and not have the care they're going to need when they come back available? It's not like we haven't been through this before. Fuck.

Arrange for military recruiters to attend College Republican meetings, and film the results.

Young republicans would never think of enlisting in the military; they know that the war is pure profitmaking bullshit but they desperately want to keep it going because they know that it is paying for their McMansions.

It is so very sad that our poor troops have to fight and die for these greedy, bloodthirsty little weasels that mock them and use them for their cannonfodder.

Fuck every phony chickenshit one of these republicans, and fuck their phony yellow ribbon stickers too.
