Homeland Security Chief Cites Progress

WASHINGTON -- After the panic of Sept. 11 came the frantic rush to Washington to accept the president's daunting challenge to prevent more terror acts against the United States.

In the interceding two years, Tom Ridge has dealt with anthrax attacks, turf wars involving the CIA and FBI, budget battles, jokes about the color-coded terror alert system and construction of a new federal department from scratch.

It is no wonder that Ridge, a former Republican congressman and Pennsylvania governor, has a hard time recounting the highlights of his first two years as the nation's first homeland security chief.

"High point? Probably getting the kids into a school that they liked because it makes my life a lot easier. We were separated for the first year," he said in an interview in his office last week, referring to his teenage son and daughter, Tommy and Lesley.

"But that's probably not what you meant."

been from retributive attacks from countries we have wronged than we have ever been before. I refuse to call these people terrorists because WE are the biggest, baddest terrorist in the world today. This joker hasn't solved even one "terrorist" problem. His Homeland Security is just another Bush fraud to steal money from the public.

Funny how that threat has all but disappeared from the news...no more mailings, no more deaths. Hmmm...seems to have been connected to the 2000 election. Will wait for this to start happening again sometime next fall.
