Massachusetts' Lt governor urges wider access to emergency contraception
BOSTON, July 14 — Lt. Gov. Kerry Healey urged Gov. Mitt Romney to sign a bill that would expand access to emergency contraception, taking a position that could put her at odds with her fellow Republican.

Versions of the legislation, which would make the ''morning after pill'' available without a prescription and make it easier for rape victims to get it, have passed in each chamber of the Legislature.

But Romney has not said whether he will support or veto the bill, fueling speculation over whether he is tacking further to the right — particularly on abortion and related issues — as he mulls a run for president.

Romney said during his 2002 campaign that he would support expanded access, but has since said he must study the legislation to make sure it doesn't violate his pledge not to change abortion laws in the state. Pro-abortion rights advocates have accused him of backpedaling.

2. I figured this was the beginning of her campaign
She always gave me the impression of beinga nobody when Mittens picked her as his running mate. Weren't she and her husband big party donors and that was why she was named?

7. It was certainly a new name to me
And I had been around Massachusetts politics for 20 years.

In any case, I agree with her position on this.

3. yes of course she is running
but to be fair (sorry, Democratic disease) she was to the left of Mittens all along on this issue.

The good news is that mittens is outta here. The hopeful news is that perhaps mass voters are tired of being used by one term republican-lite asshats with presidential aspirations.

8. It's self deffense people
Why is emergency conception wrong in the mind of pro lifers but its okay for them to carry a gun? Unbelivable people. The baby is a symbionte and there are times, tragic and harsh times, when abortion is morally acceptable. How can anyone force a woman to relive a rape night after night until she throws her self off the top of a stairs or worse - in attempt to get rid of the baby is beyond me?
Note am glad that the people of mass. elected a lt governor with the ability to reason. What we need is tougher rape laws to condemn the attacker and not the victim.
