Bush move to share N-technology with India comes under fire

WASHINGTON - US President George W. Bush has set a dangerous precedent by moving to lift a ban on civilian nuclear technology sale to nuclear armed India, which has not signed up to global non-proliferation rules, some analysts and lawmakers said on Tuesday. snip

“We are playing with fire by picking and choosing when to pay attention to the existing non-proliferation treaties,” panel member Democratic Representative Ed Markey said even before the ink could dry on a joint statement by Bush and Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh released Monday. snip

US law bars export of technology that could aid a nuclear program of any country that has not signed the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty.

“It is an extremely dangerous and unwarranted decision to try and cooperate on civil nuclear technology with India at this point,” said Jon Wolfsthal, an expert on the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction with Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, a private non-profit group.

He said Bush’s action “does nothing” to cap or slow down or otherwise alter India’s nuclear weapons advancement and would greatly weaken the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, which had kept some 180 signatory countries such as Japan and Germany from acquiring nuclear weapons themselves.

“Now they would look at the decision by the US and say: when India can have nuclear weapons and nuclear reactors too, then why not us,” Wolfsthal said.

1. Let's just give them all our technology now and be done with it. Once
our corporations have outsourced all of our jobs to India, then
they will have our technology anyway and corporate executives will have a few extra bucks in their stock per share price.

2. Damn
I can imagine some general calling to launch a nuke at Iraq.

General: I need a nuke launched.
India: OK. We launch. What at?
General: Iraq.
India: That'll be $35. I need your credit card information so I can sell it to questionable companies.
General: WTF?!
India: Sorry but it must be done.
General: I want to speak to your manager.
India: I have no manager.
General: Can't you launch it for free?
India: LOL!
General: Sheesh, can you give me the launch code?
India: No. That is private propert of India. Filthy American.
General: You eer work at AOL or Dell?
India: Yes for both. I like fucking PCs.

3. I am inclined to agree with Vegas....
And I mean that sarcastically, ofcourse. But look everything else has been sold off the f-18, patriot missles, consumer electronic technology, software. One more technology being sold big deal......

I am sorry to sound cynical but it's true......

4. So
Why should America give up everything Americans have worked long and hard for? Why give up our technology so another nation doesn't have to do anything for it? Our engineers, technicians, etc all put a lot into America's technological development. Giving it away is an insult. If we stop innovating like we have, we are not Americans.
