BAGHDAD, July 20 (Reuters) - Four Sunni Arabs on the team charged
with writing Iraq's constitution suspended their membership on
Wednesday after the killing of three colleagues, a move that could
delay the drafting of the landmark charter.

Tuesday's assassinations struck a blow to the constitution-writing
body, seen as providing a chance for a political end to the
insurgency, and Wednesday's move is likely to further hinder its work.

A draft constitution is due by mid-August.

"The environment in Iraq isn't right for anyone to get work done,"
said Salih al-Mutlaq, a spokesman for the Iraqi National Dialogue, a
Sunni Arab organisation, in explaining why the group's
representatives had suspended their membership.

1. Iraq is three countries forced into one..... this is like telling
America, Canada and Mexico to draw up a constitution and everybody just be happy with the results.

3. Sunnis Suspend Membership on Iraqi Panel
BAGHDAD, Iraq - Sunni Muslim members on a committee drafting the new Iraqi constitution suspended their membership Wednesday in the wake of a colleague's assassination. A suicide bomber blew himself up outside an army recruiting center in central Baghdad, killing at least 10 people.

Wearing an explosives belt, the suicide attacker detonated his charge at the entrance to a recruiting center at the defunct Muthanna airport in central Baghdad, according to police and medical officials.

The violence came a day after two Sunni Arabs participating in drafting the charter _ committee member Mijbil Issa and committee adviser Dhamin Hussein al-Obeidi _ were gunned down as they left a Baghdad restaurant. A bodyguard was also killed.

"Our membership has been suspended temporarily until tomorrow when we meet the committee that chose us," Hamdoun said. "We don't have security."

Sunnis suspend membership on Iraq constitutional committee; bomb kills 10

BAGHDAD (AP) - Sunni Muslim members on a committee drafting the new Iraqi constitution suspended their membership Wednesday in the wake of a colleague's assassination. A suicide bomber blew himself up outside an army recruiting centre in central Baghdad, killing at least 10 people.

Wearing an explosives belt, the suicide attacker detonated his charge at the entrance to a recruiting centre at the defunct Muthanna airport in central Baghdad, according to police and medical officials.

At least 21 others were injured in the attack, said Dr. Muhannad Jawad from Yarmouk Hospital. The recruiting centre has been targeted multiple times in recent months, with the latest attack on July 10, killing 25 and wounding 47.

The violence came a day after two Sunni Arabs participating in drafting the charter - committee member Mijbil Issa and committee adviser Dhamin Hussein al-Obeidi - were gunned down as they left a restaurant in Baghdad's Karradah district. A bodyguard was also killed.

5. Well, it seems obvious by now...
... that the U.S. will leave Iraq just about the time there's no one left IN Iraq. What a bang-up job we've done, eh? Whole cities flattened, hundreds of thousands killed or maimed, women's rights repealed, prisoners tortured/murdered, the historical sites and artifacts of humanity destroyed, and those Iraqis remaining are left to slug it out in a civil war.

Of course, Saddam is the only one standing trial for war crimes. The hypocrisy is astounding.

Does anybody know? And are they going to replace the people who left or were killed?
