House Votes Against Early Iraq Withdrawal

WASHINGTON (AP) - Calls for an early withdrawal from Iraq are a mistake that will only embolden terrorists, the House resolved Wednesday. The resolution drew opposition from Democrats, who said it implied that questioning President Bush's Iraq policies is unpatriotic.

The measure, approved 291-137, says the United States should leave Iraq only when national security and foreign policy goals related to a free and stable Iraq have been achieved.

``Calls for an early withdrawal embolden the terrorists and undermine the morale'' of U.S. and allied forces and put their security at risk, the amendment to a State Department bill reads.

The GOP-controlled House also voted 304-124 to accept another contentious amendment stating that the detention and lawful interrogation of detainees at Guantanamo is essential to the war on terrorism. Some critics of reported prisoner abuse and lack of legal recourse for detainees have called for Guantanamo to be closed.

According to Kucinich, "it will leave us in Iraq forever".

Yet, 71 "Democrats" voted "AYE".

WTF is going on?

Almost all are on the take. Iraq is a money maker for a whole host of companies that fund a whole lot of politicians.

according to the Polls these Americans want to get the hell out of there!!!

I think more needs to be said about those who ARE working and voting to bring them home in the House. A lot of them are the same ones standing with Conyers over DSM.

One of the main reasons for the fighting thats going on there right now is because we WOULDN'T leave..It's like being at a friends house and you ask them why there mad and they say "because you wouldn't leave"..so you stay longer.

I understand wanting to make sure we don't leave the country in a shambles but come on...

A time-table MIGHT get some things in order in the country but I really can't say for sure...Staying just seems masochistic in my opinion.

This wont stop the Brits from splitting. How do you think the US will fair when they have to watch the whole country. I don't think it will be very pretty.

In other words, NEVER. What an incredibly STUPID resolution. This is just what the neocons want: US committed to stay in Iraq until it is "stable", which it won't be as long as US troops are stationed there. We stole it, it's ours.

Of course, with the new-found love between Iraq and Iran, the neo-cons can't pull out without looking like complete idiots for doing "Axis of Evil" Iran the biggest favor they could ever ask for.
