Haiti: Father Jean-Juste in Isolation & New Charges
Edited on Sun Jul-24-05 05:57 PM by struggle4progress
Update from Father Jean Juste's co-counsel Bill Quigley

Fr. Gerard Jean-Juste is being held in isolation in the Haitian National Penitentiary. I tried twice to visit but was not allowed. Likewise his Bishop tried to visit him but was not allowed. <snip>

The newest reported charges against Fr. Gerry are "public denunciation" and "inciting to violence." The second charge is the same one that the unelected government has had pending against the former prime minister of Haiti, Yvon Neptune, who has been in prison for over a year with no trial in sight. <snip>

Attorney Mario Joseph will try to visit him face to face this week. <snip>

Pro-Aristide priest arrested in killing

Items compiled from Tribune news services
Published July 24, 2005

PORT-AU-PRINCE, HAITI -- A priest allied with ousted President Jean-Bertrand Aristide has been arrested in connection with the killing of a prominent journalist, his lawyer said Friday.

Rev. Gerard Jean-Juste was questioned by the judge and sent to the Central Prison and told he would be charged in connection with the death of Jacques Roche, said Bill Quigley, the priest's defense attorney.

However, chief government prosecutor Audain Daniel said a decision had not yet been made on whether to charge Jean-Juste, who denies any involvement in the killing.

3. This shit makes me so mad

We (the US) took out the elected leader and installed a bunch of murderous criminals.

As if we haven't done enough to Haiti......

This is just as bad as when we propped up Pinochet in Chile, maybe even worse, because I think more people have been killed.

4. The story of Haiti is such a sad one.
The people have never had a chance, and the world doesn't seem to
care.
