Gallup: Bush Approval down to 44%
PRINCETON, NJ -- A new Gallup Poll finds a decline in George W. Bush's job approval rating. After standing at 49% approval in the prior two CNN/USA Today/Gallup polls conducted this month, now just 44% of Americans say they approve of Bush, a new low mark for the president. The poll also shows a drop in Bush's favorable rating to 48%, which is the first time it has dropped below 50% since Gallup began tracking this opinion in 1999. Four in 10 Americans are satisfied with the way things are going in the country, which is essentially unchanged from early July. The poll shows continued positive momentum for the Democratic Party in terms of national party identification and ratings of the two major political parties, both of which were evident before the drop in Bush approval occurred.

12. Gallup has been trying to keep chimpy floating
for years, and so, I bet we can assume in truth that the polls are actually down in the 30's because of the +/- 3 or 4 points.

3. Don't forget to apply the Margarine of Error
Margarine of Error

For a Gallup poll, take the margin of error and adjust the results towards the Democrat side to get the true result.

If the poll is 44-51 +/- 3%, adjust the poll to 41-54. Remarkable that it then comes closer to agreeing with other unbiased polls.

4. Have You Noticed That FoxNews.com Dropped This?
They used to have a cheery "how's the president doing" link on their front page, LOL, but they fair-and-balanced like dropped it....

"Fair and Balanced". FUX News has single handedly made those two words the most ridiculed words in the English language.

9. Fox I think has him at 47%
Edited on Fri Jul-29-05 04:50 PM by bluestateguy
And I have been told that Fox's pollster (Gorman, I think his name is), is a Democrat. Fox also had Kerry up 2 on election eve.

I think that Fox's polls are no more likely to be off the mark than Gallup, Zogby or anyone else. However, when the polls are good for Bush the bobbleheads on Fox really play it up, while they bury any poll that is bad for Bush.

10. No What I Mean Is It Used To Be UP On Their Front Page
For a long time, I don't know where it went the "how's the president doing' link to the polls....it used to be front and center where as now, you have to serach for it.

15. Fox's approval numbers are not usually too bad
but their disapproval numbers are regularly too low. I'm not sure why.

6. Gallup might be a little higher than other polls...
... but it is the one that will get talked about by Big News. And anyway you look at it, 44% ain't good.

27. For an incumbent in his 5th year, this is very bad.
FDR in 37', Eisenhower in 57', Nixon in 73, Reagan in 85, and Clinton in 97', all had a very strong fifth year in office. Bush 05', not good at all.

29. State by state?
Is this an average of the state by state ratings? I'd love to see these numbers by individual states. I bet here in Ohio its really low. And, I wonder how this'll play in '06.
