Time: When They Knew
Edited on Sun Jul-31-05 02:36 PM by longship
Time magazine just hit with a new bend on the Rove Affair.

As the investigation tightens into the leak of the identity of covert CIA operative Valerie Plame, sources tell TIME some White House officials may have learned she was married to former ambassador Joseph Wilson weeks before his July 6, 2003, Op-Ed piece criticizing the Administration. That prospect increases the chances that White House official Karl Rove and others learned about Plame from within the Administration rather than from media contacts. Rove has told investigators he believes he learned of her directly or indirectly from reporters, according to his lawyer.

This is more gasoline on the fire. These guys are in deep poo-poo. And they are stonewalling and lying. This has cover-up written all over it.

Here's the link:

1. Bush looks more Nixonian
with each passing day. He even has the middle finger of manners to go with his hero's v for victory.

17. I never thought I'd rise to Nixon's defense, but . . .
you're insulting Nixon. Paranoid, controlling, and monstrous though he was, he was a self-made man and wasn't born with a silver spoon in his mouth. He fought dirty, but they were his fights, and he was in the ring doing the work--not his handlers and sycophants.

Was he a great president? Absolutely not. But he *was* the president. Today's version is so pathetic that he can't even imitate him. Bush makes Nixon look good, in the way a dog or cat tries to lap up its vomited food. There was some nutrition in that vomit; now all we get is unadulterated bile.

2. As my mom always told me, "Once you lie, you have to KEEP lying"
Edited on Sun Jul-31-05 02:43 PM by earthboundmisfit
Another lie to cover up the previous lie - which was told to cover up the one before that, ad infinitum. And this web of lies is a great illustration of how right Mom was...

11. sorry, but on that issue, WC Fields gave better advice than your mum.
Then again, he also bitched about who stole the cork out of his lunch.

3. One has to ask ...
... why the WH was concerned about the Wilsons before the Op-Ed?

4. Great question-why was WH so concerned about Wilsons earlier?
Edited on Sun Jul-31-05 02:53 PM by wishlist
Thanks for bringing up that question. As I recall Condi Rice was involved early on because Wilson contacted the WH and was getting frustrated over WH failure to get the story right on Niger. Condi told him to write about it himself if he was so unhappy with how WH had presented the info. These revelations add even more fuel to the fire to those who suspect that WH set up Wilson and then exposed his wife more to stop her WMD investigations and prevent more Wilsons from speaking out than just to retaliate for his article.

6. That's my take as well, wishlist. I think they were really after
Plame and her investigation; Wilson was a bonus, or so they thought at the time.

8. Google "America Judas" by Robert Paulson on DU
He wrote a most illuminating sysnopsis of why Valerie Plame had to be neutralized by this war profiteering administration.

If the Yellowcake story was so important to this administration and chances are they knew it was a forgery before they sent Wilson, why would they send an objective outsider who was sure to prove their evidence false? Does this sound like the way this administration operates?

Plame was always the objective...they just needed the cover of "political revenge" to broadcast it.

5. It seems the press is slowly figuring it all out.
I wonder if they will come close to the same conclusions as Fitzgerald. All these stories do is show that Fitz will have a case.

9. Jaworski and Watergate GJ indicted on Friday.
Friday may be a good day for these things. It's a slow news day and the GJ may want to avoid some of the feeding frenzy. Also, they may be worried about WH response and may wish that WH cool down a bit before taking crazy action.

Since the WH and half of Washington has gone home, this Friday may be a good day for indictments.

13. Powell may well be the bigest rube in the history of suckerdom
After the way they used him and his credibility to lie and kill, for him to have possibly been the one to give them the information necessary to fuck the intelligence community would make him the stupidest and most self-defeating imbecile in history.

Let's see how it sorts out.

28. Yes, he was USED by the Administration, but that gave him a better
reason to discredit the Wilsons. His credibility and reputation were on the line and he had everything to gain by their outing.

The real question is... why did Powell make that speech? Could he or his family have been blackmailed or threatened for some kind of retaliation?

14. The most logical scenario seems to me to be the Plame/CIA
WMD probe was about to get too close to Cheney et al. They lucked out when they found out Plame was Wilson. They sent Wilson and, knowing him to be an honorable man, misused his material. The rest was simple; call good old Bob.

15. Pincus first cited Wilson as an anonymous source
That's how they got a bead on Joe- they knew he was the one who knew what he knew and could talk (or write) about it legally.

thats what it will take for all america
always been the way in most cases and follows the course in this situation as well
until youre hit then you have no idea and most dont really want to know either until they are hurting then the cause becomes important and worth fighting

20. Why would Pincus be snooping around about Wilson going to Niger?
How did he know that he went there in the first place?

Some one in the Govt had to have prodded him to investigate.

My big question for Pincus is who the F@#$% do ye work for?

Do ye work for the Cheney gang eh?

25. Wilson may well have known Pincus
and called him.

Pincus cited Wilson's gripe without mentioning Wilson's name. Seems to me Wilson was trying to get the truth out without making major waves at first. When that didn't work, then he wrote his op ed, and then all hell broke loose publicly.

Just MHO, of course.

27. How aggravating Time didn't get to this BEFORE--how dumbass was Rove's
statement anyway?

He's the Deputy Chief of Staff (at the time was he just advisor?), we're supposed to believe he heard classified information from a reporter? He'd be doing a piss poor job if that were the case, and I don't think anyone in the media thinks that, they're always kissing his ass about how so very smart he is...
