23. Give the guy a break.
Bartman didn’t do anything the cubs haven’t done for some ninety years now. He kept tradition alive at Wriggly Field, almost a century of futility both on the field and in the stands. It’s probably a good thing anyway. If the cubs were to win it all the world would flip on its axis and spin out solar system. And the legendary losers of baseball the cubs would become just another team.

16. Witness protection is his only hope.
Not that the guy is to blame for the whole thing but HEY DUMBASS, when you go to a game you are supposed to be aware of what's going on around you. Carlos Zembrano and that stupid f**k reliever who lost the first game will also go down in infamy. All in all, just a typical Cubs outcome. My heart is broken. P.S. Sox suck.

7. Not his fault...Dusty stuck with tiring pitchers too long.
There was an error in that game also.

Just not their time.
I hope that Dusty has enough integrity to say something comforting to this fan and the rest of the Chicago fans. To blame the loss on this person is inhumane.

24. I agree
My only complaint about Dusty is that he leaves a pitcher in trouble
in the game to long.

They broke my heart in '84 losing three straight and now they've done it again. I must be a masochist or something.

8. Oddly enough
My sister came to town over the weekend and we took a hike in the Columbia River Gorge. Along the way, we passed an "unconventional" family from of all places Chicago.

They were walking with their "pack goat." :tinfoilhat:

17. I "kid" you not about the pack goat
although I should have been clearer and stated that the women now live outside of Gresham- they moved here from Chicago several years ago.

Oregon, they don't let you pump your own gas. Nice pit stop between Seattle and SF:)

I told her yesterday afternoon to make sure to pick me up a Cubs World Series t-shirt while she was there.

12. I feel bad,
The Cubs blew it big time,

I'd love to see them win the whole thing, but damn, Florida wouldn't go away. Really, the Cubs couldn't finish, they had Florida 3-1, lost three in a row...

Then again, I said it once, I'll say it again, Florida was/still is the best team all around in the post-season. They're tough fighters, underdogs, best manager, and I think they can beat Boston, maybe New York.

13. Sorry, I was hoping Chicago would win. I hate Florida!
And, I don't especially like baseball. But, Floriday sucks with JEB as governor and all of that crap with the 2000 'selection'! Geez, can't anything turn out proper for the Dems?

Dusty had the same problem last year with Anaheim (heart of repug territory) which won the series over SF.

I guess the Devil is in the details...and, the details are against us in politics and in sports!

:-(

14. CUBS SUCK
Don't take this lightly. I am from the North Side (only a few blocks from Wrigley). They have broken my heart once again. If I'd had a gun and was sitting next to the idiot on the third base side, I believe I might have shot him. I'm sick of this shit and have vowed to never believe in them again. Unfortunately if they go to play-offs again, my dumb ass will be rooting for them. I'm a stupid asshole.

22. Idiot?
In high school, he won academic achievement awards, served on the student council, acted in plays and was a member of the National Honor Society.

After college, Bartman worked as an associate at the Lincolnshire office of Hewitt Associates, a global human resources outsourcing and consulting firm. He is among thousands of employees who handle calls from employees about their benefits.

Melchior, his college friend, said Bartman worked for Hewitt in large part because the company was sympathetic to his youth league coaching schedule, which often took him out of state.

Known to players as "Coach Bart," he was one of two coaches of the 13- and 14-year-old Niles-based "Renegades," an elite youth league baseball team on which Bartman also had played. The squad went 49-25 last year and team members described him as a dedicated coach who was intense, yet nurturing.

Use that label on someone that fits, unlike alot of people he actually has his life and his heart in the right place. I admire the guy, what happened couldn't of happen to a better guy. Even former Chicago Cubs SS said he did what 40,000 other Cub fans would've done.

19. Someone might want to post this as late breaking news
Edited on Thu Oct-16-03 12:38 AM by MrChupon
I don't have enough posts on DU to start a new thread.

MIAMI - If he's interested, the 26-year-old Chicago fan who deflected a foul ball away from a Cubs outfielder in Game 6 of the NL Championship Series can find solace in Florida.

Gov. Jeb Bush said Wednesday an offer of asylum might be a good idea, and an oceanfront retreat in Pompano Beach is offering the man a free three-month stay, should he deem it necessary to get out of Chicago until the hubbub over the popup cools down.

http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/sports/7021500.htm

Do you think Jeb intends to use Florida Tax $$ for that?
